Job Description

We are seeking an experienced AI Data Scientist II to join our innovative Fusion Team at AbbVie Pharmaceuticals. In this role, you will leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to transform our clinical data operations and drive pharmaceutical innovation. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with clinical science knowledge to develop solutions that accelerate drug discovery and improve patient outcomes.

***This is a hybrid role based in Lake County, IL***

Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and deploy AI-driven solutions to solve complex clinical and pharmaceutical challenges
  2. Develop and maintain backend systems using FastAPI for robust data processing pipelines
  3. Create and manage knowledge graphs using Neo4j for sophisticated data relationships
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including clinical scientists, IT, and business stakeholders
  5. Lead multiple concurrent projects while maintaining exceptional quality standards
  6. Translate complex technical concepts into accessible insights for non-technical stakeholders
  7. Stay current with emerging AI technologies and methodologies relevant to pharmaceutical research
  8. Independently design and develop business technology solutions to answer scientific or business questions through integration, visualization, and analysis of data. Demonstrate proficiency across a range of technologies related to storage, transfer, integration, visualization, and analysis of large and complex data sets.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of the pharmaceutical and healthcare business, and utilize this knowledge in the rapid advancement of agile, impactful, and cost-effective solutions
  10. Effectively organize and present project objectives and progress. Contribute to technical publications and presentations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related technical field plus 2 years of relevant experience or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related technical field 
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML in clinical or pharmaceutical contexts
  • Strong programming skills in Python with emphasis on data science libraries
  • Experience building applications on AWS infrastructure
  • Proficiency with Neo4j graph databases and cypher query language
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs and natural language processing techniques
  • Backend development experience using FastAPI
  • Frontend development capabilities with React.js
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare industries
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and regulatory requirements
  • Publication record in AI/ML applications in healthcare
