About the Role
Are you a highly skilled Cloud Engineer who leads by doing? At Rearc, we’re looking for a Lead Cloud Engineer who can take ownership of complex technical initiatives, drive them forward with hands-on expertise, and elevate the engineers around them. If you thrive in high-trust environments, prefer building over managing, and want to shape the future of secure and scalable cloud infrastructure, you’ll feel right at home here.
What You’ll Do
As a Lead Cloud Engineer, you’ll be expected to go deep technically while also guiding others. This role is for engineers who lead by example, not from the sidelines. You’ll be responsible for:
- Owning Critical Initiatives: Take the lead on complex infrastructure projects, from architecture through implementation, while ensuring security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Staying Hands-On: Write code, build pipelines, deploy infrastructure, debug production issues, and contribute to reusable modules — all while setting engineering standards for others to follow.
- Technical Decision-Making: Make pragmatic, high-impact architectural choices and drive alignment across engineers, customers, and stakeholders.
- Leading from the Front: Serve as a technical role model through code reviews, pair programming, design docs, and mentoring.
- Customer Enablement: Act as a trusted technical advisor to our customers’ engineers — helping them solve hard problems, accelerate delivery, and build internal capabilities.
- AI Platform Enablement: Design and build the foundational cloud infrastructure required for successful AI/ML workloads on GCP (Vertex AI, Gemini, vector stores, etc.).
- Infrastructure as Code & CI/CD: Lead the design and rollout of scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Config Connector, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Security & Compliance Ownership: Embed secure-by-default principles across infrastructure, automation, and deployment practices, especially for customers in regulated environments.
- Mentorship & Technical Uplift: Grow the capabilities of other engineers by sharing knowledge, giving feedback, and encouraging technical excellence.
What You Bring
- Deep GCP Expertise: Hands-on experience designing and building solutions using GCP services like GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, IAM, Spanner, VPCs, and service networking.
- Kubernetes Depth: Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, security, observability, and operating workloads in GKE at scale.
- IaC Mastery: Expert-level fluency in Terraform (including module design), with experience in tools like CDKTF, KCC, or Pulumi a plus.
- CI/CD Proficiency: Built and maintained secure and scalable CI/CD pipelines with integrations like vulnerability scanning, artifact signing, and policy-as-code.
- Security-First Thinking: A solid understanding of least privilege, workload identity federation, secure networking, and compliance controls.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python or Java (Go is a plus) for scripting, automation, and tooling.
- Observability Practice: Familiarity with observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and distributed tracing tools.
- Strong Communication: Ability to clearly articulate trade-offs and design choices with both engineers and business stakeholders.
- Enterprise Experience: Demonstrated success in high-scale, regulated, or hybrid environments with a high bar for quality and security.
- Team Mindset: A natural mentor who raises the bar for the entire team through collaboration and example.
- Bias for Action: You don’t wait for permission or perfect requirements — you dive in, validate assumptions, and iterate.
Why Rearc?
At Rearc, we value engineers who own what they build, challenge assumptions, and care deeply about doing things right. We were founded by engineers, and our culture is optimized for high-trust, low-friction collaboration. There’s no bureaucracy, just smart people working together to solve hard problems.
We work across cloud infrastructure, security engineering, data platforms, and ML enablement — often at the edge of what cloud providers make possible. We don’t separate architects from implementers. Our leads build alongside the team.
If you want to stay hands-on, lead meaningful projects, and shape the future of cloud-native engineering, let’s talk.
