Job Title: Global R&D Strategy & Operations Analyst

Location: Port sunlight Research Lab or Colworth

Work-Level: B4/1D

JOB PURPOSE

Would you like to be part of shaping the leading consumer goods R&D of the future? Would you like to help the R&D leadership make better, informed decisions?  The Global R&D Strategy & Operations Analyst role offers a unique opportunity to work across R&D and the wider business to do just that.

R&D is a key driver of profitable growth for our Brands and Business Groups (BGs) through innovation and superior products – and helping protect and fuel our business through sustainability, supply continuity and product savings. The required performance step up behind the Growth Action Plan and our BG and Top 30 Brand growth ambitions requires even more from our science, technology, innovation and R&D capabilities.

We are looking for a proactive, self-organising, team player to join the Global R&D Strategy & Operations team. In this role you will be working as part of an energised small team that operates across R&D and other functions (e.g. HR, communications, finance, marketing) and is focused on excellence in data, analytics & reporting, providing actionable insights to improve decisions and performance in R&D. You should have a strong analytical mindset with flair for handling complex data sets and are comfortable running analyses to derive insights and trends.  You should have an obsession for data quality and attention to detail.  Your time will be split between the continued development and usage of the Key Technology Tracking System (KTTS, previously known as the New Technology Portfolio, NTP) and supporting our data office analytics.  You will have opportunities to work on the wider Strategy & Operations programme that interacts with multiple data sources, cross-BG/cross-Function networks, and generates insights for our senior stakeholders.

The role suits a highly motivated, talented individual with strong data science skills, the ability to think strategically, and has a passion for getting the details right. You will gain experience of system development, and you will have multiple opportunities to develop broad business awareness and the contribution of R&D.  You will build a strong network, learn how to operate and communicate with stakeholders across the business.  It is a great career development opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role reports to a senior R&D Strategy & Operations manager.  The role will support:

Global R&D Strategy & Operations data office programme:

  • Support bespoke analyses requested by senior decision-makers using multiple, cross-functional datasets
  • Seek out new data sets and analysis methodologies for deeper insight generation, e.g.: R&D-related data for technology tracking, technology roadmaps, and product superiority.
  • Maintenance and management of key data sets
  • Generate output material for senior stakeholders.
  • Improve decision-making, shifting emphasis from data collection to decision support and insight

KTTS to ensure it remains fit for purpose:

  • Enhance end-to-end reporting, e.g. seamless alignment with Innoflex
  • Help build tools and techniques to improve data quality within KTTS and related systems
  • Engage with power users to understand emerging needs and implement best practice, and provide support to new users
  • Support the planning and execution of KTTS development sprints

ALL ABOUT YOU

  • Having the right mindset is critical to the role:
    • A firm belief that data analytics is a foundation for high quality decision-support
    • Good ability to connect with people and co-create new solutions
    • A strong willingness to drive adoption of new tools and ways of working, e.g. use of AI
    • Well-developed analytical thinking with an ability to identify patterns within data
    • Ability to work independently, together with a strong bias for action
    • Rigour in getting the details right
    • Creative thinking to support the development of new ideas

  • Prior experience and specific skills:
