Flexible work arrangements are available for this position, including the ability to work remotely. Remote work for individuals who reside outside Texas but within the United States and its territories will be considered and requires Central Office approval. Note: This position is not fully remote and will require occasional on-site work, typically 15-20 days per year.
This position provides a life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.
Purpose
This is a senior-level network engineering position within the Enterprise Technology Core Networking team that will be responsible for setting technical and operational standards, designing, building, and operating systems and services in support of the University’s adoption of cloud services and network security systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and development of operational standards for core network services with an emphasis on Cloud network services.
- Evaluate technologies and products, perform cost-benefit analyses, and approach the development of network systems as a value proposition.
- Implement FCAPS processes for Cloud network services and ensure all Cloud network deployments adhere to such processes.
- Integrate cloud technologies with other network service offerings to develop a comprehensive portfolio of service offerings.
- Manage and operate systems that provide Core Networking services.
- Provide escalation support for complex network service design and troubleshooting.
- Organize, document, and present design standards and operational practices to Networking staff and campus community. Engage Networking staff and campus community to identify network technology needs.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
- Experience implementing public, private, and hybrid cloud services
- Experience with LAN and WAN routing and switching
- Experience designing and implementing network-based security controls
- Experience implementing network segmentation using MPLS and VRFs
- Experience developing and implementing FCAPS processes and practices
- Experience implementing network automation processes
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS and Azure cloud providers
- Experience designing and implementing large enterprise networks (5000+ network devices)
- Experience with Cisco IOS-XE and IOS-XR routers and switches
- Experience with FortiNet firewalls
- Experience with Python and JavaScript
- Experience working in large university environments (30000+ students) supporting academic (instructional and research) and administrative functions
Salary Range
$145,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
- Monday – Friday flexible between 8am-5pm
- On-call work required (rotation): This position has 24x7 on-call and escalation expectations and is expected to be generally reachable when not on PTO.
- This position requires occasional work outside of normal work hours (e.g. scheduled maintenance and incident response). Work performed over 40 hours per week will accrue compensatory time.
