Job Description
Position Purpose:
This position will be responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining all components of the Mid-Atlantic Geographic Information System (GIS). This position supports all operations by keeping the Enterprise GIS system current, supporting staff that use GIS and GPS equipment, and providing training. Responsible for ensuring all GIS data adheres to data standards and best practices. This position will provide support publishing GIS data for enhanced mapping, operational support, engineering projects, creation and delivery of presentations, and participate in internal meetings. Responsible for collecting and maintaining GPS data for the business unit.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the GIS including updating geometry and attributes to reflect system updates.
- Conduct field data collection as needed.
- Work independently and in a collaborative team driven environment.
- Train and support field staff and contractors on mobile devices, GIS maps and GPS technology.
- Update GIS data using information provided by GPS data collection and in EAM/WFM systems such as CityWorks, INFOR, or KloudGin.
- Adhere to standards for GIS systems, including but not limited to databases, applications, and training programs.
- Create and maintain Enterprise Portal/AGOL maps and applications to support operational needs and reporting to leadership.
- Enhance and promote the utilization of GIS within the business unit.
- Assist in readiness activities for Esri Utility Network Implementation.
Work Environment:
- Ability to split time between office work and medium-duty field work such as GPS data collection outdoors for several hours per day. Must have the ability to drive a company vehicle.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, or related field.
- 3 - 5 years applied GIS experience; experience with ESRI Product Suite (QGIS experience not considered).
- Experience in a Utility environment preferred but not required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- In-depth experience with Esri’s suite of products including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Geodatabases, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web Apps, Survey123, Field Maps and Commercial grade GPS units (i.e. Trimble, Eos etc.)
- Experience in editing GIS data in a versioned geodatabase (Enterprise SDE experience preferred, but no required.)
- Experience in editing and querying GIS databases, building descriptive and cartographically sound maps, geocoding, and spatial analysis.
- Experience with mobile data collection and GPS technology.
- Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, map projections, and topology
- Knowledge of GIS automation, scripting and languages such as ArcPy, Python and Arcade is a plus
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Driver’s License as some travel will be required.
