The Principal Architect – Data Architecture is a senior technical leader responsible for defining and governing the data strategy that supports IQ-STORAGE’s digital platforms for energy storage and renewables. This role sets the long-term vision for data modeling, architecture, and infrastructure across high-frequency telemetry, operational performance, and analytics applications for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), EMS, and SCADA systems.
This individual works closely with product managers, data engineers, software developers, and analytics teams to ensure that data is accurate, secure, and actionable — enabling insights across fleet operations, forecasting, compliance reporting, and energy market participation.
Responsibilities:
Define and lead the enterprise data architecture strategy for clean energy platforms, covering time-series telemetry, event data, asset metadata, alarms, and forecasting inputs.
Design scalable and interoperable data models that support real-time monitoring, digital twins, and long-term storage for analytics and reporting.
Collaborate closely with data engineering and software teams to ensure consistent data architecture across the full technology stack — from edge devices to cloud analytics platforms.
Establish a comprehensive data governance framework, including standards for data quality, validation, naming conventions, access control, and retention.
Evaluate and guide the adoption of platforms and tools for time-series storage (e.g., InfluxDB), data lakes, cloud-native data warehousing, and ETL/ELT orchestration.
Oversee the design and integration of reporting and analytics tools (e.g., Grafana, Power BI, Tableau) into the architecture to support operations, finance, and customer insights.
Work with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure data solutions meet regulatory standards (e.g., NERC CIP, ISO 27001, KRITIS where applicable).
Develop architecture blueprints and roadmaps that align with deployment operations, and service-level commitments.
Collaborate with product and analytics teams to understand data use cases for performance guarantees, LTSA metrics, predictive maintenance, and energy market analytics.
Stay up to date on emerging technologies and standards in clean energy, IoT, edge computing, and data platforms, bringing innovative approaches to scale and resilience.
Mentor data engineers and serve as a technical advisor on data strategy during platform development and customer deployments.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
10+ years of experience in data architecture, data platform engineering, or enterprise data strategy, with a focus on operational or industrial domains.
Deep expertise in designing end-to-end data platforms for high-volume, time-series data environments (e.g., energy, IoT, SCADA).
Hands-on experience architecting data systems for cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including hybrid or on-premise integration for EMS/SCADA data ingestion.
Strong understanding of time-series database technologies (e.g., InfluxDB, TimescaleDB), data lake architecture, and warehouse design.
Familiarity with energy infrastructure and control systems, including BESS, EMS, SCADA, and protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA.
Proficient in data modeling, metadata management, master data strategies, and designing for performance and cost optimization.
Experience with BI/reporting integration and advanced analytics enablement, including dashboards, KPIs, and forecasting models.
Strong knowledge of data governance, data security practices, and relevant regulatory frameworks for energy systems.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, product owners, field operations, and executive stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with a bias for execution and the ability to drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
Compensation & Benefits:
IQ-Storage offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and capabilities, including comprehensive benefits and a performance bonus package based on performance and achievements. Our benefits package includes a Retirement Plan, medical/dental/life/disability program, vacation, and sick days.
