Our team is part of the Application Security organization, responsible for the technologies powering Akamai's security products and protecting some of the world's major internet brands. Working in partnership with Global Services, Engineering, and Product teams we help our customers get the best protection against threat actors.

Shape internet security

In this role, you'll play a key part in strengthening security products by analyzing data, addressing customer challenges, and driving product improvements. You'll collaborate across teams to implement solutions, enhance detection accuracy, and provide insights that shape strategy and performance.

As a Data Scientist (Security Data Analyst), you will be responsible for:

• Being proactive analyzing large datasets to identify emerging patterns of unmitigated attacks and incorrectly blocked human requests
• Resolving customer-reported escalations by analyzing their traffic, tailoring detection algorithms for maximum accuracy, and optimizing configurations
• Collaborating with Engineering and Product teams to debug production issues, conduct root cause analysis and propose product enhancements
• Engaging with Professional Services and customers to implement detection enhancements and advocate for customer priorities
• Generating regular reports on attack trends, mitigation effectiveness, and key security metrics for stakeholders
• Improving our tooling to proactively identify accuracy issues and facilitate traffic analysis

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 2 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent
• Have experience with data analysis for security applications and showcasing innovative problem-solving skills
• Have practical knowledge of application security products such as WAF and bot detection
• Have experience in SQL and familiarity with Python or similar programming languages
• Demonstrate familiarity with Internet protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, TLS/SSL
• Have great verbal and written communication skills
