Job Description
This Developer II / Data Engineer role will be focused on integrating technologies to stream data from our legacy systems and migrated applications into our cloud-based Microsoft Data Fabric environment. They will play a key role in a cross-functional agile development team and will be responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of various cloud native components. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, collaborative team player, and problem solver.
Cloud-native systems are designed to thrive in a dynamic, virtualized cloud environment. These systems make extensive use of Platform as a Service (PaaS), compute infrastructure and managed services. This developer will be well versed in these technologies (particularly within Azure) and possess the skills to quickly adapt and learn new ones. It will require technologies and techniques that are new to many at Expeditors but available and proven in the wider technology domain.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and document end-to-end data solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
- Develop ETL/Streaming processes to integrate data from multiple sources.
- Optimize data models and databases for efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to meet evolving data needs.
- Maintain high standards of data quality through testing and validation.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and system performance.
- Stay up to date with emerging trends and tools within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.
- Support knowledge transfer by training existing data teams on implemented solutions.
Tools and Technologies: Candidates should be comfortable with the following tools and concepts:
- Microsoft Azure: Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database.
- ETL/Streaming Tools: Kafka, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or Fabric-native Notebooks.
- Programming Languages: Java, Python, PySpark.
- Data Governance: Understanding of best practices for compliance and quality.
- Technical Documentation: Ability to clearly document processes and workflows.

This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA. area at one of the following locations depending on availability. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or 5+ years in software development.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with:
- Object oriented analysis and design.
- Relational database concepts and SQL.
- Diagramming and communicating with disparate audiences of technical and non-technical people.
- Solid Java and/or Python coding abilities.
- Experience with GitLab/GitHub, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, as well as GitOps.
- Experience with the Kubernetes ecosystem.
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline development, testing, integration and refinement.
- Understanding of design for scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
- Experience assessing organizational security needs and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
- Willingness to forgo role boundaries and contribute where needed.
- Customer service-oriented attitude and great time-management skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Supporting environments using Azure cloud infrastructure technologies.
- Experience with Azure Key Vault and/or Hashicorp Vault.
- Knowledge of the Kafka ecosystem.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes operators.
- Knowledge of Spring, Spring Boot, and dependency injection.
- Knowledge of operating systems including Linux, preferably RHEL7+.
- Scripting experience (especially shell, Python).
- Declarative environment management with Terraform or Bicep.
- Composition, packaging and deployment of containers, images, and Helm charts.
- Experience designing and implementing distributed systems.
- Experience working within a SAFe/Agile development framework.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (DP700-Fabric Data Engineer).

Additional Information
Expected base salary: $100,000 to $145,000
May be eligible for bonus following first year of continuous employment in position.
