The Data Engineer role will focus on providing comprehensive analytics consulting and solutions for payor and provider clients, including offerings in value-based care, referral analytics, and operations efficiency.  A successful candidate will possess excellent technical, communication, and interpersonal skills and will be self-motivated and driven to achieve. The Team

 Milliman’s Mountain Gulf Health Practice consists of forty-eight actuarial professionals, healthcare consultants, IT, and administrative professionals. We are a group of highly self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals. Our practice has developed expertise in a variety of business areas, which means we are always working on new and interesting challenges related to the healthcare field and actuarial profession.

 

What You Will Be Doing

  • Data Pipeline: Creation of a Databricks solution for a healthcare data focused pipeline.
    • Data Governance: Configuring and maintaining unity catalog to enable enterprise data lineage and data quality
    • Data Security: Ensuring Data Security protocols remain compliant with HITRUST certification and relevant privacy regulations (i.e. HIPAA)
    • ETL: Building batch processing solutions within Databricks including automation of transformations
    • Medallion Architecture: Building out performant enterprise-level medallion architecture(s)
    • Pipeline Configuration: Building out infrastructure in Databricks and AWS or Azure to process data through compiled software tools
    • Costs: Working with the business to build cost effective and cost transparent Data solutions
  • Pipeline/ETL Management: You will help architect, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines, monitoring, and optimizing performance
    • Identify and implement improvements to enhance data processing efficiency
    • Experience with building out effective pipeline monitoring solutions
    • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using technologies such as SQL, Delta Live Tables, Python
  • Data Modeling: Lead design, implementation, and maintenance of custom efficient data models for both structured and unstructured data
    • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements
    • Develop and maintain data models, ensuring they align with business objectives and data privacy regulations
  • Collaboration: Partner internally and externally with key stakeholders to ensure we are providing meaningful, functional, and valuable data
    • Effectively work with Data, Development, Analysts, Data Science, and Business team members to gather requirements, propose, and build solutions.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and provide guidance on best practices.
    • Ensure that technology execution aligns with business strategy and provides efficient, secure solutions and systems
  • Processes and Tools: Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
    • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
    • Create data tools to improve efficiency of internal projects and processes

What We Need

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in design, development, and testing of data pipeline solutions, such as Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Products
  • 2+ years of experience managing and standardizing healthcare data from structured and unstructured sources
  • Expert level experience working in Databricks, AWS, and Git
  • Expert level experience working in SQL and python
  • Experience building and managing solutions on AWS
  • Experience building data models, data warehouses, and designing data lakes for data pipelining and storage
  • Familiarity with designing and building ETL and data ingestion processes and utilization of tools to support enterprise solutions.
  • Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, security, monitoring, and release management through source control
  • Experience working with and managing large, disparate, identified and de-identified data sets from multiple data sources

Wish list

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in computer science, data engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in design, development, and testing of data solutions, such as Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Products

Location

 The Mountain Gulf Health Practice operates under one management group across five remote locations – Denver, Houston, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco. Candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the US. The expected application deadline for this job is August 31, 2025.

 

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $104,900 - $207,720. For candidates residing in:

  • Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the salary range is $115,390 - $190,410.
  • New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco the salary range is $125,880 - $207,720.
  • All other locations the salary range is $104,900 - $173,100.

A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
