CAS is currently seeking a Data Scientist Technical Manager specializing in Life Sciences and Drug Discovery. This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

This is a senior individual contributor role that leads complex analytical projects and initiatives without direct reports. The ideal candidate is a highly self-directed professional who drives innovation in life sciences analytics, guides project ideation and implementation, and serves as a strategic thought leader across the organization.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership & Project Management

  • Independently conceptualize, design, and execute large-scale analytical projects focused on life sciences and drug discovery applications
  • Drive project ideation by identifying high-impact opportunities that leverage scientific data to accelerate drug discovery and development processes
  • Manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously while maintaining exceptional quality and meeting strategic business objectives
  • Lead cross-functional project teams as a technical expert and strategic advisor, influencing outcomes without formal authority

Business Impact & Innovation

  • Translate complex life sciences challenges into well-defined analytical problems with clear success metrics tied to business value
  • Develop and implement cutting-edge AI/ML solutions for drug discovery workflows, including molecular property prediction, compound optimization, and target identification
  • Drive strategic business decisions by synthesizing analytical findings and presenting actionable insights to senior executives and C-suite leadership

Technical Excellence & Thought Leadership

  • Architect and build sophisticated mathematical models using large-scale chemical and biological datasets
  • Evaluate and integrate diverse data sources including chemical structures, bioassay data, clinical trial information, and scientific literature
  • Apply advanced artificial intelligence techniques specifically relevant to pharmaceutical research, including cheminformatics, bioinformatics, and computational biology methods
  • Solve novel, ambiguous problems using innovative combinations of statistics, machine learning, and domain-specific computational methods

Organizational Influence & Communication

  • Serve as the primary data science representative on high-visibility cross-divisional initiatives and strategic planning committees
  • Influence and educate stakeholders across all organizational levels through compelling presentations that translate complex analytics into clear business value
  • Represent CAS externally by presenting research results at scientific conferences, participating in peer review panels, and publishing in respected journals
  • Mentor and develop junior data scientists and interns, fostering analytical excellence across the organization

 Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's Degree in Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Data Science or a related field with 12+ years of progressive experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in life sciences analytics with deep understanding of drug discovery processes, pharmaceutical research workflows, and regulatory considerations
  • Advanced proficiency with modern data science tools and platforms (for example - SQL, Spark, Python, R, graph databases, cloud platforms) with specific experience in cheminformatics and bioinformatics tools
  • Proven track record of independently leading complex analytical projects that delivered significant business impact in pharmaceutical or biotechnology environments
  • Expert-level knowledge in quantitative methods, advanced statistics, and machine learning with specific application to molecular and biological data
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and drive organizational change
  • Strategic thinking capabilities with proven ability to identify high-value opportunities and translate them into successful analytical solutions

 Strongly Preferred:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Deep domain knowledge in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, or drug discovery/development processes
  • Cloud platform expertise for large-scale scientific computing and analytics
  • Consulting or client-facing experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors

 Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel as required
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
