Job Details:

Purpose

The Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory (SISL) is seeking a motivated individual to support research and development tasks relating to algorithm development and data analytics requiring a background in the geosciences and data sciences. This includes tasks such as machine learning on time series, ability to lead teams of data scientists and fellow researchers, ability to perform novel research in the geosciences, and evidence of publications. The ideal candidate will have experience in both the geosciences and machine learning techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, researching, and testing state-of-the-art algorithms applicable to a range of projects.

  • Documenting research in form of publications and reports.

  • Develop and maintain sponsor relationships and programs.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with collaborators.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Geosciences, Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline.

  • Three years of related experience.

  • Experience in at least one of the following: geosciences, time series analysis, and machine learning

  • Proficiency using Python for development, testing, and implementation of algorithms.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with subject matter experts when developing analytics.

  • Experience working on Linux and Windows operating systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, with a strong commitment to contribution and enabling the entire team.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of related experience

  • Demonstrated ability to implement and test data science and machine learning based techniques on a variety of problem domains, including applications outside of geosciences.

  • Experience in one or more of the following types of data: space-based lidar, 3d point clouds, electro-optical data, time series

  • Experience working in an applied research setting.

  • Demonstrated publication record

  • Demonstrated ability to implement and test algorithms in a research environment.

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Salary Range

$110,000-$155,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
