About the Role

The Mastercard Authorization Platform is an international message processing system that serves all Mastercard principals, affiliates, and associations: large and small, automated and non-automated. The Authorization Platform transmits authorization validation data among issuers, acquirers, and points of interaction.

The Authorization Platform refers to both hardware (the physical communications lines of the Mastercard Network and Mastercard interface processors [MIPs]) and software (the Mastercard Network authorization application).


Role

Serve as the primary contact responsible for the overall health, performance, and capacity of Mastercard applications.

Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, capacity planning, and launch reviews.

Partner with the development and product team of a new application to establish the right monitoring and alerting strategy and create the framework to achieve zero downtime during deployment.

Implement data-driven monitoring and alerting strategies to ensure application health and performance.

Design and manage ETL processes to ensure data is accurately and efficiently moved between systems.

Create dashboards and reports using tools like PowerBI to visualize application performance and capacity.

Perform operability and resilience design and implement and maintain highly reliable and scalable infrastructure.

Perform root cause analysis of incidents and collaborate with development teams to resolve issues.

Participate in on-call rotations and be available to respond to critical incidents.

Complete end-to-end run ownership of the product.

Practice sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortems while taking a holistic approach to problem-solving and optimizing time to recover.

Automate data-driven alerts to proactively escalate issues. Work with development teams to establish SLOs and improve reliability.

Develop and maintain data pipelines to support real-time monitoring and alerting.

Analyze incident data to identify trends and improve system reliability.

Utilize predictive models to forecast potential issues and proactively address them.

Tackle complex development, automation, and business process problems. Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.

Support the CI/CD pipeline for promoting software into higher environments through validation and operational gating, and lead Mastercard in DevOps automation and best practices.

Perform operational and resilience design and implement solutions for capacity planning and performance optimization.

Increase automation and tooling to reduce toil and manual intervention.

Build and maintain automated data pipelines to support CI/CD processes.

Utilize Python for scripting and automation tasks.

Implement and manage cloud-based solutions using AWS and Azure.

Analyze ITSM activities of the platform and provide feedback loop to development teams on operational gaps or resiliency concerns.

Generate reports on ITSM activities and provide insights for continuous improvement.

Use data analytics to identify operational gaps and areas for improvement.

May be required to participate in on-call rotations and be available to respond to critical incidents.


All About You

The ideal candidate will have experience in many of these areas:

BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience is preferred

Proven experience with Python and applicable libraries for scripting and automation

Strong understanding of DevOps principles, practices along with configuration management.

Experience in operational and resilience designing, building, and operating large-scale, distributed systems

Appetite for change and pushing the boundaries of what can be done with automation. Be curious about new technology, infrastructure, and practices to scale our architecture and prepare for future growth

Experience with algorithms, data structures, scripting, pipeline management, and software design

Strong communication skills and a sense of ownership, and drive

Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems

Proficiency in analyzing data to drive decision-making and improve system performance; experience with predictive modeling and analytics

Ability to perform exploratory data analysis to uncover business insights

Proficiency in creating visualizations using tools like PowerBI

Ability to build and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure; proven experience working with ETL tools and processes

Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure

Experience working with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications to enhance performance

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
