Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.

We are looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Associate Principal Scientist to drive the development and implementation of automated high-throughput systems and data workflows for bioconjugate development and join our outstanding team.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of bioconjugate development, laboratory automation, and data-driven decision-making, helping to shape automated workflows that accelerate the design, testing, and optimization of complex biomolecular therapeutics. You will play a key role in advancing our data infrastructure to support high-throughput experimentation and large-scale data handling.

What you’ll get:

  • An agile career and dynamic working culture

  • A highly collaborative environment that fosters teamwork and inclusion

  • A range of professional development programs to grow your skills and career

  • An ethical workplace where tasks are carried out in accordance to the relevant procedures

  • Compensation programs that recognize high performance

What you’ll do:

  • Drive the development of automated and high-throughput workflows in the bioconjugates space.

  • Establish workflows for storing, collecting and processing large, complex datasets, ensuring data integrity and traceability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical objectives with operational and business needs and translate scientific challenges into innovative technological solutions.

  • Extract and structure data from digital platforms such as Empower, ELNs, and LIMS to support streamlined, automated experimental workflows.

  • Train and support scientists and laboratory technicians in the implementation and use of lab automation technologies.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends in automation and data technologies and apply them to evolving project needs.

What we’re looking for:

  • PhD or MSc or equivalent experience in biotechnology, bioinformatics, (bio)chemical engineering, chemistry or related field.

  • Significant experience in high-throughput experimentation, automation and lab digitalization.

  • Proven ability to process large-scale experimental datasets.

  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, R).

  • Familiarity with GMP-compliant systems such as Empower, ELNs, or LIMS is beneficial.

  • Solid understanding of bioconjugates, complex biomolecules, or similar therapeutic modalities.

  • Strong collaborative mentality and ability to lead projects in a cross-functional environment.

  • Fluency in English and a good knowledge of German is required.

Every day, Lonza’s products and services have a positive impact on millions of people. For us, this is not only a great privilege, but also a great responsibility. How we achieve our business results is just as important as the achievements themselves. At Lonza, we respect and protect our people and our environment. Any success we achieve is no success at all if not achieved ethically.

People come to Lonza for the challenge and creativity of solving complex problems and developing new ideas in life sciences. In return, we offer the satisfaction that comes with improving lives all around the world. The satisfaction that comes with making a meaningful difference.
