WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC’s Technology and Operations division. GFT’s impact is far-reaching as we collaborate with partners from across the company to deliver innovative and transformative IT solutions. Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.
We are looking for a skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our Toronto Fraud and AML IT team. work on the development and deployment of data pipeline, drive innovation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business growth and improvement. The candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, software development and leadership, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions that meet business needs. The person will collaborate closely with team members under Agile Squad including product owners, architects, business analysts and quality engineers.
The candidate posts deep understanding of data management principles, modern data stack, cloud computing and ability to apply them in practical, business-focused context. Partners across IT and with assigned business line(s) to assess, research, and analyze business, technical and system needs in order to resolve business systems issues.

Job Description

What will you do?

  • Creating software for retrieving, parsing and processing structured and unstructured data.
  • Defining and building scalable ETL/ELT workflows for reporting and analytics.
  • Developing scripts and programs for converting various types of data into usable formats.
  • Working with different RBC internal teams for software feature delivery, support and bug fixes.
  • Supporting project team to scale, monitor and operate data platforms for very high availability and performance.
  • Contribute to technical design, development, and implementation of applications.
  • Ensure code quality, performance, scalability, responsiveness of applications.
  • Participate in post-implementation reviews of application, development, and processes, continually working to create a learning environment by sharing with others.
  • Work in an Agile team environment which is fast paced, fun and collaborative.
  • Ensuring the operating efficiency of existing application systems. Maintaining records for the documentation of systems development and revisions.
  • Stay current and competitive by keeping up to date with the latest platform capabilities, security, performance, and reusability.

Must Have 

  • Relevant Data Analyst/Engineering experience in a large-scale corporate context (6 or more years of relevant experience in this role).
  • Payment domain experience especially in retail and commercial banking
  • AML or Fraud Domain experience 
  • Strong Experience skills in one of the following programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, or C++.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, and Azure) and MLOps tools.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design and functional programming.
  • NoSQL/SQL databases.
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience in working with Big Data Technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Elastic Search).
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns, testing, and deployment.  Experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, experience with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
