In our fast-paced environment big problems ignite us—we embrace uncertainty, leaning into complex challenges to unlock groundbreaking solutions. We aim high and stay humble in our pursuit of excellence, constantly learning and evolving as we pave the way for a smarter, safer future.

At Wayve, your contributions matter.  We value diversity, embrace new perspectives, and foster an inclusive work environment; we back each other to deliver impact.

Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!

The Role

We are hiring an Engineering Manager (M4) to lead our Data Curation team — a growing pillar of Wayve’s ML Engineering organization. This team builds the systems and policies that enable researchers and engineers to curate a balanced, high-quality video corpus for autonomous driving models.

Your team will be responsible for integrating high-leverage tooling for data filtering, corpus shaping, and quality triage, and driving the infrastructure that underpins our training data policy. You’ll lead a team of ML and backend engineers, growing from 4 to 8+ people as we scale into 2026.

This role sits at the heart of how Wayve learns from data — owning the link between enrichment, evaluation, and model performance at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and enforce corpus inclusion policies to ensure scenario diversity, geographic balance, and model relevance.
  • Drive technical direction across:
    • Metric-driven corpus shaping and performance-informed dataset selection
    • Programmatic data filtering and prioritization pipelines
    • Quality triage and rejection tooling (e.g., label noise, sensor anomalies)
    • Embedding-based retrieval workflows for hard mining and data clustering
  • Integrate with existing internal visualization tools and selectively adopt 3rd-party platforms (e.g., Voxel 51, W&B Tables).
  • Partner with Science, Pretraining, and Enrichment teams to align data policy with downstream model goals.
  • Coach and grow a team of 4–8 engineers, supporting their technical and career development.
  • Define and deliver the roadmap for scalable dataset curation, enabling high-signal training data at low marginal cost.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Engineering Manager - Data Curation (Machine Learning) at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years managing engineering teams in ML infra, data platforms, or model tooling domains.
  • Strong engineering background — fluency with Python, TypeScript, and production-grade backend systems (e.g., APIs, orchestration, storage).
  • Experience building data quality or filtering workflows using robust, testable codebases (not notebooks).
  • Deep understanding of ML development workflows and dataset iteration bottlenecks.
  • Proven ability to scale systems for large-scale video, image, or log data.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with active learning or data selection via embedding spaces (e.g., CLIP, BC/ODD classifiers).
  • Experience implementing or enforcing data policy at scale (e.g., inclusion rules, scenario quotas).
  • Exposure to triage systems, label QA, or human-in-the-loop curation pipelines.
  • Understanding of corpus-level performance monitoring and data-to-model feedback loops.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London, England, UK.  At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.   We operate core working hours so you can determine the schedule that works best for you and your team.

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.
