Your role as Finance Intern 

We are looking for a Finance Intern to support our Associate Finance Director at Riverflex. You’ll play a key role in our day-to-day finance operations, with a primary focus on hands-on financial administration. Beyond these core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives.  

You’ll be joining a new and growing finance team that is actively working to strengthen and streamline its processes. As we scale, there is a strong focus on improving the efficiency, structure, and impact of finance operations across the business. 

This is a chance to build a strong foundation in finance while helping shape the future of a modern, tech-enabled finance function. If there’s a mutual fit, this internship can evolve into a Junior Controller role at Riverflex, where you’ll take on broader responsibilities as we keep growing as a business. 

Your responsibilities 

• Support day-to-day finance operations by booking incoming invoices, processing transactions, and assisting with the month-end close. 

• Perform account and VAT reconciliations, and ensure financial data is accurate, complete, and well-organized. 

• Participate in finance process improvement initiatives, helping to map existing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and propose improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, or scalability. 

• Identify manual or repetitive finance tasks that could be automated and suggest practical solutions. 

• Contribute to the development of reporting tools and dashboards that improve visibility and decision-making. 

• Share ideas for internal tooling such as smart templates or policy chatbots to enhance finance team efficiency. 

Role requirements 

• You are completing or have completed your HBO or WO studies in Business Economics, Finance & Control, Fiscal Economics, or Business Administration with a strong finance/tax focus. 

• You are confident in your understanding of financial administration and accounting principles. 

• You know your way around Excel and may have experience using Power Query or PivotTables. 

• You have awareness about automation and AI tools - whether through a side project, minor, or by experimenting with tools like Python, ChatGPT, Copilot, or BI tools such as Power BI.  

• You are accurate and pay close attention to detail, especially when it comes to administrative and reconciliation work. 

• You are analytical and approach tasks in a structured, methodical way. 

• You are proactive in your own development, growth-oriented, and ready to take on a challenge.  

• You are comfortable in a dynamic, fast-changing scale-up environment, where priorities may shift, and not everything is fully defined yet - flexibility, proactivity, and creativity are key. 

• You are fluent in English, and if you speak Dutch, that’s a bonus - particularly when supporting in tax/legal matters.
