Job Profile Summary

The Data Engineer is responsible for envisioning, communicating, and overseeing the development of data products for the organization. The data products must support a wide variety of analytic use cases with a focus on data quality, standardization, and scalability. Responsibilities include designing, testing, and building efficient data flows and products able to handle high volumes of data. The Claims Data Engineer will work as a team with other architects and data engineers and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver a cohesive data architecture to achieve the company’s strategic objectives. The Claims Engineer will need to have intimate knowledge of claims data, its sources, and its analytic use cases.Ā  They will ensure alignment of the product design and development with priorities set by our Product Management team.Ā 

Who you are/what you'll own:

  • Work with Data Solutions Leadership and related Business Units to design and apply creative and efficient solutions to a variety of data transformation and products.
  • Work with Product Management to ensure the data engineering team has clear requirements based on value to our customers
  • Collaborate with other Data Architects to define and standardize data development best practices.
  • Design and develop performant incremental data flows and pipelines
  • Perform reviews of work done and provide guidance to other department data engineers
  • Ability to dig into the data and understand business logic within the source system data.
  • Identify data validation tests to ensure data quality.
  • Engage/train/mentor internal team members and partners from other teams.
  • Balance tasks and priorities between projects and initiatives; ensure assigned tasks are executed efficiently and according to project requirements and timelines
  • All other duties as assigned

What you'll bring to this role:

  • Deep knowledge of payer claim data across a variety of payers (including: commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE/VA, FEHBP, Worker's Comp, etc)
  • Deep knowledge about various ways claim data is transmitted (flat files, 837, etc)
  • Experience leveraging claim data for analytic purposes
  • Expert level in Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Big Data Technology (primarily Databricks) experience, a plus
  • Industry Standard Data Tooling (primarily DBT), a plus
  • Experience working with EMR\EHR systems and an understanding of the healthcare clinical domain
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other team members
  • Self-motivated; comfortable working under general direction
  • Working knowledge of big data principles, processes, technologies, and tools
  • Ability to take pride in the quality, details, efficiency, and consistency of the data warehouse components that you will build, deploy, and maintain at scale.
  • Experience with a variety of healthcare data including Claims, Clinical, HL7 messages, CCD documents, and EDI X12 Claims files
  • Familiarity with development methodologies, including the AGILE development approaches
  • Python / PySpark experience

Relevant Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, or healthcare-related degree
  • 6+ years’ experience in healthcare/technology-related field
  • 3+ years’ experience working with payer claim data Ā

  • Safeguard information system assets by identifying and reporting potential and actual security events to the organizations Security and Compliance Officers.
