This position is responsible for assisting in data analysis and modeling efforts to support institutional research and decision-making in an academic setting. The Data Scientist will work under the guidance of senior team members to extract insights from data, develop predictive models, and contribute to data-driven initiatives.

Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data from various sources.
Support the development and implementation of data models and algorithms.
Collaborate with senior data scientists to identify patterns and trends in data.
Contribute to data visualization and reporting efforts.
Participate in data-driven research projects and initiatives.

Preferences:
● Advanced degree in computer science or a related field of information management or equivalent work experience, plus professional experience with technology-focused metadata projects,
scripting, and data manipulation
● Experience using or architecting APIs
● Conceptual knowledge of programming, data manipulation and transformation tools, technologies and methodologies (e.g., SQL databases, PHP, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, OpenRefine)
● Demonstrated success with working in project teams collaboratively, with multiple levels of staff, colleagues, and community constituencies
● Familiarity with ontology development and structured data standards, such as controlled vocabularies and thesauri
● Experience with analyzing, creating and documenting procedures such as service standards, policies, procedures and workflows
Additional Desired Qualifications
● Knowledge of range of linked data standards and tools such as RDF triple-stores, SPARQL queries, JSON-LD, IIIF, BIBFRAME, and/or the Web Annotation standard
● Knowledge of XML schema, XSLT stylesheets, metadata cross-walks, and principles for designing and/or adapting existing work from related domains
● Knowledge of archival and library metadata standards (descriptive, technical, structural) (e.g., EAD, MARC, MARCXML, METS, MODS, FCGD, CCO, Dublin Core, VRA and others)
● Applied knowledge of SNAC platform
● Demonstrated success performing complex work both independently and collaboratively with a diverse group of people, and values of community work
● Ability to learn and master new software, systems, and technology as required
● Experience working with archival collections or knowledge of archival repository functions, services, and requirements
● Experience working with Native and Indigenous (or other BIPOC) communities
● Familiarity with core university digital systems and platforms such as Google Suite and Zoom.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in data analysis, data modeling, or related roles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of machine learning techniques and algorithms.
Knowledge of database querying languages (e.g., SQL).
Knowledge of data privacy practices and regulations.
Knowledge of higher education data and research fields.
Knowledge of data preprocessing and cleaning techniques.
Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., matplotlib, ggplot).
Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
Skill in analytics and problem solving.
Skill in using Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Ability to communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders.
