Job Description

About the Role

At SEEK, Senior Data Scientists are trusted to lead the development of cutting-edge AI systems that shape the way millions of people discover meaningful work. As a Senior Data Scientist in the Personalisation team, you’ll take ownership of end-to-end solutions—from shaping problem definitions and designing experiments to building models and deploying them at scale.

You’ll work on some of SEEK’s most impactful challenges, such as deep candidate representations, personalising user experiences, and delivering adaptive, data-driven content across our platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with AI Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Data Scientists, while also mentoring and guiding less experienced team members.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, loves solving ambiguous problems, and is passionate about both technical excellence and product impact. If you're ready to drive innovation and lead with influence, we want to hear from you.

The Team

The Personalisation team sits within SEEK's Artificial Intelligence & Analytics (AIPS) group and plays a pivotal role in shaping how candidates interact with our products. Our goal is to help users find the right opportunities faster, by tailoring their experiences using behavioural signals, advanced machine learning, and deep user insights.

As part of a specialised cross-functional unit, we design and deploy models that power intelligent content systems and personalisation engines. Working in quarterly cycles, we explore, prototype, and ship solutions that transform the job discovery experience for millions.

What You’ll Do

Business Impact & Collaboration

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to solve complex personalisation challenges aligned with SEEK’s strategic objectives

  • Collaborate closely with AI Product Managers, Software Engineers, and other Data Scientists to develop scalable and impactful solutions

  • Take ownership of roadmap planning and technical direction for personalisation initiatives

  • Influence the broader team through thought leadership, structured experimentation, and strong stakeholder engagement

Model Development & Innovation

  • Design, build, and deploy machine learning models for large-scale personalisation systems

  • Apply advanced techniques in model tuning, ranking, and system design to deliver measurable user and business outcomes

Performance & Validation

  • Design and execute rigorous evaluation strategies, including offline metrics, A/B tests, and long-term performance monitoring

  • Ensure that all models meet quality, fairness, and performance benchmarks before and after deployment

  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot performance issues in production systems

Data-Driven Insights

  • Drive data analysis to uncover insights that inform personalisation strategy and product development

  • Translate complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations for product and engineering teams

  • Support evidence-based decision making across the AIPS group through dashboards, documentation, and storytelling

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Proven experience mentoring junior or mid-level data scientists

  • Ability to provide technical guidance, code reviews, and project leadership

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI roles

  • Proven ability to lead the development and deployment of production-grade ML models

  • Strong background in machine learning, statistics, and data analysis

  • A Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data science libraries such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch

  • Hands-on experience with deep learning, ranking algorithms, or personalisation frameworks

  • Deep experience with A/B testing, experimental design, and model evaluation techniques

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
