We are seeking an Enterprise Master Data Lead who will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, consistency and governance of critical master data within Ausnet’s systems (primary on SAP) with a particular focus on asset, customer and operational data.
You will play a pivotal role in enabling reliable business processes, regulatory compliance and analytics across the business by driving high quality standards and championing best practices in data lifecycle management.
This role is based in Southbank and is part of the Group Operations team.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of master data across domains including asset, equipment, vendor, and material records.
- Define and implement data quality rules, validation logic, and exception handling routines to improve data trustworthiness and reduce manual rework.
- Lead root cause analysis and remediation of master data issues in collaboration with IT, business units, and Digital teams.
- Support the rollout and optimisation of data governance tools and frameworks, including metadata catalogues, data quality dashboards, and stewardship workflows.
- Act as the enterprise subject matter expert (SME) for master data structure, processes, and integration with other enterprise systems (e.g. GIS, finance, field operations).
- Develop and maintain master data documentation, business rules, and data dictionaries to support operational consistency and audit readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to uplift master data quality and governance maturity, aligned to AusNet’s data strategy.
- Contribute to key enterprise programs and system upgrades by advising on master data requirements, data migration, and test validation.
- Monitor and report on master data health using KPIs and dashboards to support regulatory reporting, performance metrics, and risk reduction.
- Build data capability by mentoring data stewards and end users on best practices for data creation, maintenance, and ownership.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Certification or formal training in SAP Master Data Management (e.g. SAP S/4HANA, SAP MDG) – highly desirable.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience managing and maintaining SAP master data in a complex, multi-domain environment.
- Experience in supporting SAP implementations, upgrades, or system integration projects.
- Additional certifications in Data Management or Data Quality (e.g. DAMA CDMP, Six Sigma for data quality) – advantageous
- Training in data governance frameworks or tools (e.g. Alation, Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview) – beneficial.
- Proven track record of leading or contributing to data quality improvement initiatives.
- Exposure to regulated industries, ideally utilities, energy, or infrastructure, where data supports compliance and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with IT, operations, asset management, and analytics teams to embed master data practices
- Involvement in audits or data governance maturity assessments is highly regarded.
