About the role

We are hiring a Manager, Data Engineering to play a crucial role in our mission to establish a world-class Data Engineering team within the Center for Data and Insights (CDI) and reshape the future of our data-centric aspirations as we aim for new heights. You will help grow our data engineering capabilities in the AWS and GCP ecosystems by collaborating with the data team and implementing several projects across data architecture, data lake infrastructure, and job orchestration. You will ensure the consistency and reliability of data and insights, aligning with our objective of promoting well-informed decision-making.

You will demonstrate an empathetic and service-oriented approach, promoting a successful data and insights culture while enhancing and safeguarding our data infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to build our data engineering platforms globally.   • Be the go-to expert for data engineering best practices, architecture, and latest technologies.
  • Provide strategic guidance on data platform modernization, scalability, and governance.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring the team adopts modern solutions.
  • Lead technical training sessions, upskilling engineers on advanced data engineering concepts.
  • Foster a culture of learning, encouraging innovation and experimentation.
  • Be the trusted advisor to interdepartmental teams, ensuring clear agreement between business and technical goals.
  • Represent the data engineering function in executive discussions, advocating for scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to promote data-driven decision-making.
  • Establish data governance policies, ensuring compliance and security.
  • Design and increase scalable data pipelines, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex data challenges, providing expert-level solutions.
  • Guide the team in evaluating new tools and technologies, balancing innovation with stability.

In the role of Manager, Data Engineering, you will report to the Senior Director, Data Engineering.

We are considering applicants for the locations of San Francisco or Los Angeles.

About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering and software development
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Solid knowledge of data architecture, pipelines, and governance
  • Experience optimizing data systems
  • Experience with BI tools (i.e. Tableau or Superset)
  • Experience managing large-scale data sets, handling Terabytes of data and billions of records (across structured and unstructured datasets
  • Experience implementing compute and orchestration tools like Databricks and Airflow
  • Experience with AWS services (i.e. EMR Spark, Redshift, and S3) or GCP services (i.e. BigQuery, Google Storage, Looker or Google Analytics)
  • Experience in event data collection tools such as Snowplow, Segment, Google Tag Manager, Tealium, or mParticle.
  • Experience translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights
  • Willingness to explore the latest technologies.

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, employer matched retirement savings, time-off programs, and progressive health benefits and perks.Pay Transparency - San Francisco, CA$200,000—$250,000 USD
