Purpose

Designs, develops, and maintains computer-based information systems to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with business needs. Performs complex systems analysis and programming tasks. Determines data needs and designs database structures for effective storage and retrieval. Maintains a reliable information system infrastructure. Provides technical advice and consultation. Conducts feasibility studies to evaluate departmental and user needs. Defines business requirements and system objectives, recommends optimal systems, and presents recommendations to management. Prepares and conducts system and programming needs assessments. Develops and maintains standards, process improvements, and documentation. Communicates with and trains clients. May lead projects and train lower-level staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, migrates, deploys, and maintains both custom and vendor applications meeting all requirements with respect to quality, schedule, accessibility, performance, and security. Performs complex systems analysis and programming tasks requiring advanced techniques. Provides regular schedule, milestone, and implementation updates to project leaders.

  • Provides integral support for maintenance and enhancement of student information systems through integrations across Learning Management Systems (LMS), Learning Technology Integration (LTI) Tools to align with OnRamps initiatives.

  • Develops an in-depth understanding of business definitions and needs by working with other OnRamps staff. Generate documentation relevant to job function for use by a technical or functional community. Works closely with other campus IT teams to optimize University-wide resources and to improve the quality of IT services for OnRamps clients.

  • Provides appropriate periodic schedules, milestones, and implementation updates to the team leader regarding projects and status. Communicates with OnRamps application users and constituents regarding ongoing system enhancements. Provides consistently excellent customer service to both internal and external clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least four years of experience in systems design, analysis, and programming within a university environment, demonstrating the ability to analyze, test, and debug complex legacy and federated systems

  • Proven track record of managing projects within a prioritized time frames

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in a team-first environment

  • Extensive experience with Python, Django, Relational Database Systems

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • More than 5 years of experience in systems design, analysis, and programming within a university environment.

  • Experience working with student information and its relevant operational data source systems, such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) and University Registrar and Admissions data.

  • Experience using containerization and distributed deployment systems like Rancher or AWS.

  • Experience writing technical documentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to train and educate fellow developers, clients, and stakeholders.

Salary

$90,000 + depending on qualifications
