Description

Bierman Autism Centers, a fast-growing ABA services provider and a leader in clinical excellence, is seeking a budding AI enthusiast to join our innovative team as a Junior AI Engineer and help us build cutting-edge solutions that improve patient care and operational efficiency.

This is a full-time role that will be worked on a hybrid schedule with 4 days in office in our corporate office in Carmel, IN or fully remote for the right candidate. We are seeking an individual with a knack for practical problem-solving and a passion for making a real impact in healthcare. If you thrive in a collaborative environment, are eager to learn, and can leverage the power of AI tools while maintaining a critical eye, we want to hear from you!

Core Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers and data scientists to design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications within the healthcare domain.
  • Work on various stages of the AI development lifecycle, from data exploration and model prototyping to deployment and monitoring.
  • Utilize AI model APIs (like Gemini, ChatGPT, and others) to enhance development processes, generate code, and accelerate tasks, while critically evaluating their output for accuracy, completeness, and strategic alignment.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented Python code to integrate AI models into existing systems and build new functionalities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our software engineering practices and infrastructure.
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical discussions, and help shape our technical roadmap.
  • Document processes, methodologies, and findings, clearly communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in generative AI, LLM development, and related technologies to continually enhance product capabilities.
  • Maintain, monitor, and improve the performance of existing AI systems, ensuring their scalability and alignment with organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Software Engineering Foundation: A strong foundational understanding of software engineering principles is more important to us than deep, specialized ML knowledge at this stage. You should be comfortable discussing the journey of taking a technical concept from ideation to production.
  • Practical Experience: 2+ significant projects in Machine Learning or software development. This could include internships, capstone projects, large personal projects, or substantial academic work.
  • User-Impacting Technology Experience: Demonstrated experience building or contributing to technology that has a tangible impact on users. Examples include an internship with a university IT department, developing a tool for a community, or building a website used by multiple people.
  • Python Proficiency: Basic to intermediate Python programming skills, enabling you to effectively utilize and adapt AI-generated code and build out necessary functionalities. Be prepared to showcase your coding ability in an interview or demo project.
  • AI Tool Acumen: Ability to effectively use AI tools like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude to magnify your output. Crucially, you must also possess excellent critical thinking skills to detect hallucinations, incompleteness, poor strategy, or suboptimal prompting from these tools.
  • Collaborative & Professional: An easy-to-work-with individual, with strong communication skills, who is a pleasant and professional fit within our team-oriented culture.
  • Usable ML Knowledge: While not necessarily an ML graduate, you should possess a working understanding of machine learning concepts and be able to engage in collaborative discussions about common challenges encountered when bringing technical concepts to deployed production usage at each stage.
  • Education Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in any of the following technologies: AI model APIs (Gemini, ChatGPT), Vercel, Supabase, Cursor, AWS/Azure/Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of generative AI use cases specific to healthcare.
  • An understanding of ethical considerations in AI development and deployment.

Exempt, Full Time Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. Full-time employees are offered comprehensive benefits, including Paid Time Off, 401k, health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as optional Short and Long-Term disability coverage.
