Kemper is seeking to add a data engineer to staff the Kemper Auto Data Engineering development team. The role will enhance and maintain analytical environments supporting financial, management and statutory reporting requirements along with enhancing and facilitating Kemper Auto decision making capabilities. Preferred experience with auto insurance and cloud based ETL platforms.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Developing solutions using Database technologies – Snowflake, Python, ETL Pipelines, Informatica, and cloud deployment and services.
  • Independently design and develop solutions to support reporting, analytic and warehouse needs using the appropriate platform, tools and programming languages on assorted system requests.
  • Using independent judgment, analyze business requirements and work with client areas to produce specifications used in creation of the reporting and analytical solutions.
  • Maintain existing warehouse, reporting and analytic solutions by providing production support for troubleshooting and regular processing needs.
  • Ensure newly designed systems run as needed, perform validity check on production output.
  • Turn functional and data mappings into reporting, analytic and warehousing solutions.
  • Conduct performance tuning on new and existing systems to insure optimal efficiency.

Position Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience developing data warehouse solutions preferably within the insurance industry.
  • Hands-on experience with industry standard ETL technologies (IICS, Pentaho, Informatica, Python, AWS Glue)
  • Advanced SQL skills and proficiency with Stored Procedures
  • Experience supporting large scale Enterprise Data Warehouses
  • Prior experience with architecting complex ETL processes.
  • Auto insurance background a plus.
  • Experience with cloud-based database technologies (i.e.: Snowflake, AWS)
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent certifications in technical system design or equivalent experience.
  • Sound understanding of data warehouse best practices, relational data structures and dimensional data modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of current relational database and big data software and query concepts
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and to work independently on multiple tasks
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical associates
  • This position is eligible for remote work in the US.

The range for this position is $86,200 to $143,600. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and Kemper benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)
