Are you looking for an opportunity with plenty of growth potential? Do you enjoy working in an
exciting, fast-paced, collaborative environment? Are you interested in working with the world’s most innovative companies to create a more connected world?

Connecting Continents. Impacting Communities.

The backbone of the Internet is a series of high-tech subsea fiber optic cables deployed throughout the globe - SubCom has deployed over 50% of them. Our employees ensure data communications networks are engineered, manufactured, deployed, and maintained to the highest standards, enabling faster and more reliable connectivity to communities worldwide. Every member of the SubCom team plays a role in an end-to-end process that is critical to enterprises, governments, big cities, and rural towns.

We encourage, expect, and value creativity, thoughtful risk taking, openness to change, and diverse perspectives. Whether you’re a seasoned applicant seeking a new and exciting challenge, or you’re new to the workforce and looking for a flexible, rewarding, and fast-paced position with an innovative and stable organization (since 1953), SubCom has opportunities to advance your career.

Position Overview: The Optical Sub-Assembly (OSA) and Optical Component Solutions (OCS) groups are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Developer to accelerate our critical modernization initiative: migrating and enhancing production floor applications from LabWindows CVI to LabVIEW within a targeted six-month timeframe. This position will be instrumental in:

  • Translating, architecting, and optimizing approximately 10 production GUIs, including applications interfacing with advanced instruments such as laser etchers and motion-controlled stages.
  • Maintaining and enhancing modern desktop applications designed to collect manufacturing data, improving operational efficiency and providing clear data to process owners.

This role is a cornerstone of our drive to strengthen internal software expertise, improve operational efficiency, and integrate seamlessly with enterprise systems such as Oracle ERP. You will also support data pipeline scripting (Python, SQL) and effectively utilize AI development tools to enhance productivity.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Meet with process owners to discuss and define requirements for new applications or modifications to existing applications to help address a business problem
  • Work within Windows with Visual Studio and SQL Server to create custom applications and reports
  • Thoroughly test your applications before deploying them to work out any unexpected issues
  • Provide instruction and training for process owners and end users on working with your custom applications
  • Providing support for your applications should issues arise, potentially during off hours if required by business processes
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Follows safety guidelines (PPE, etc.) and demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Lead the translation and targeted re-architecture of existing CVI National C applications into robust, maintainable LabVIEW code, applying modern design patterns where beneficial.
  • Maintain and optimize existing and newly converted LabVIEW applications to ensure system stability, performance, and alignment with operational needs.
  • Design and develop new LabVIEW applications for data acquisition, process control, and automation as required.
  • Implement LabVIEW best practices, coding standards, and architectural frameworks to ensure scalable and supportable solutions.
  • Implement and manage version control systems (e.g. Git or NI Software Lifecycle Management) for LabVIEW applications.
  • Establish effective branching, merging, and release management strategies to ensure clear versioning and traceability.
  • Contribute to automated build and deployment processes for LabVIEW executables and installers to maintain consistent production deployment.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and views (MySQL, Oracle) to support data extraction, transformation, and reporting needs.
  • Develop Python scripts for data manipulation, cleaning, and ETL processes to automate operational data workflows.
  • Ensure structured data outputs from LabVIEW applications for downstream integration with Oracle ERP and analytical systems.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of desktop-based GUI CRUD applications built with Electron, React, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and enhancing the user interface of internal tools that interact with SQL databases.
  • Effectively use AI-assisted development tools such as Windsurf IDE and NI Nigel AI to enhance software development productivity.
  • Identify areas of practical AI tool application and provide feedback to support continuous improvement of development workflows.
  • Work closely with Process Engineers, Automation Engineers, Data Scientists, IT, and Operations teams to understand requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Develop and maintain clear technical documentation for software solutions and data pipelines to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing activities, supporting best practices in software development and data handling within the team.
