The Opportunity
We’re looking for a future-focused academic to lead the redevelopment of courses in economics, econometrics and business statistics, while helping shape new programs in Business Analytics and Decision Science. With deep expertise in quantitative analysis including econometric modelling, statistical inference, data science and AI, you will support the School’s vision to build interdisciplinary, learner-centred and digitally enhanced education. You will play a key role in integrating advanced tools such as Python, R and cloud-based platforms into teaching and research, and connecting quantitative thinking with areas like sustainable business, digital innovation and smart systems. You will also contribute to a strong research culture, supervise HDR students and help foster an inclusive, collaborative environment that empowers the next generation of business students with the analytical and digital skills needed to thrive.
You will:
- design and deliver engaging courses, support student success, and contribute to a culture of teaching excellence;
- publish in top journals, secure funding, and supervise HDR students to advance knowledge and real-world outcomes;
- support School and University development, including maintaining AACSB accreditation and shaping future directions; and
- build strong industry and community partnerships that enhance learning and create meaningful impact.
About you:
Our ideal candidate is an energised and thoughtful academic who brings curiosity to their research, creativity to their teaching and a genuine commitment to student success. You’re someone who stays sharp in your field, shares knowledge in ways that truly connect and sees technology as an opportunity, not just a tool. You care about real-world impact and enjoy building strong partnerships, whether that’s with industry, community or fellow researchers. You’re comfortable leading in both the classroom and your discipline, and you bring a collaborative spirit that helps lift those around you. If you’re ready to shape learning experiences that stick, drive research that matters and contribute to a positive, forward-thinking academic culture, we’d love to hear from you.
You will possess:
- A PhD in quantitative economics, econometrics or a related field, with a strong focus on applying advanced analytics to real-world problems.
- Proficiency with statistical and analytical tools such as Python, R, Stata or SAS, and experience with cloud-based platforms and visualisation tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Expertise in advanced quantitative methods, including econometrics, causal inference, data science or machine learning, applied in complex, data-rich contexts.
- Experience designing curriculum that makes quantitative content accessible, engaging and relevant for diverse business students.
- A track record of innovation in teaching large undergraduate subjects using inclusive, digitally enhanced approaches.
- Strong research output in top-tier journals (ABDC A or above), with experience leading data-driven, applied projects.
- Understanding of AI and machine learning in business and economics, and ability to embed this into teaching and research.
- Experience supervising HDR students in quantitative or data-intensive fields.
- A collaborative, inclusive leadership style that contributes to high-performing academic teams.
We’d also value
- Qualifications or recognition in tertiary teaching (e.g. AdvanceHE Fellowship).
- Additional study in statistics, mathematics, decision science, AI or machine learning.
- Certifications in relevant programming or modelling tools.
- Experience with large-scale data analysis using GPU-based or cloud computing.
- Strength in designing online and asynchronous learning experiences.
