Principal Product Manager, AI enablement, Minecraft

The Principal Product Manager, AI Enablement, will spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive AI/ML strategy at Mojang Studios, ensuring alignment with Mojang’s core vision and values. This role involves coordinating multiple groups to explore and capitalize on opportunities in the evolving AI space. Responsibilities include selecting and enhancing development tools, overseeing the ideation of internal and external generative AI applications leveraging LLMs (Large Language Models), computer vision, and other advanced AI technologies.  The Principal Product Manager, AI Enablement will coordinate with internal teams on educational initiatives to empower Mojang Studios in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning and will create a franchise impacting AI roadmap.

Responsibilities

AI Strategy Development: Define and drive the AI strategy, ensuring alignment with Mojang Studios’ overall objectives, priorities, and goals. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, data science, game design, and other teams to integrate AI solutions effectively.  Partner closely with product and creative teams to ensure that Mojang Studios’ AI strategy is aligned to our vision, principles, and values. 

Stakeholder Communication: Act as the main point of contact for AI initiatives, communicating progress, challenges, and opportunities to stakeholders.  Stakeholders will span multiple groups across Microsoft, Microsoft Games, Industry, and internal Mojang Studios teams.   

Technical Expertise: Stay updated with the latest AI trends and technologies, providing insights and recommendations for their application in gaming.  This role will own the execution of applied AI/ML projects in the studio. 

Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for AI projects, processes, and best practices. 

Alignment and Advocacy: Foster a culture of AI adoption across the studio, advocating for AI-driven solutions and ensuring team alignment with AI goals. 

Growth Mindset: Encourage continuous learning and improvement within the team, promoting innovation and experimentation. 

Diversity and Inclusion: Actively promote and support diversity and inclusion initiatives within the team and organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development 
  • OR equivalent experience. 
• 4+ years people management experience.
  
• Experience building AI solutions for internal and external stakeholders. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development 
  • OR equivalent experience 
• Experience in a product or data management role within the video gaming industry. 
• Experience in AI/ML concepts, frameworks, and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch). 
• Experience using big data tools such as Spark (PySpark), Databricks.  
• Understanding of data science principles and methodologies. 
• Experience with software development processes and tools (e.g., Agile, Azure DevOps). 
• Experience with Generative AI applications in workflows, tooling, or customer experiences.
  
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. 
• Verbal and written communication skills. 

Product Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
