How You Will Contribute:
Reporting to the Senior Test Engineering Manager for Photonic Transport Products within Ciena's Global Products & Supply Chain organization, the New Product Introduction team is seeking a highly motivated Test Development Engineer to join their innovative and dynamic group. In this role, you will contribute to the development and delivery of advanced automated calibration and verification solutions for Ciena's industry-leading optical portfolio, with a strong emphasis on photonic line cards.
Photonic Line Cards are critical components in optical networking systems, designed to facilitate high-speed data transmission over fiber-optic networks. Photonic line cards manage optical signals, providing functions such as wavelength multiplexing, amplification, routing, and signal conditioning.
This role requires a strong technical background, problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Due to the nature of the role, daily on-site attendance at the office is required,
and the flexibility to travel internationally up to 10% of the time outside of Canada.
- Develop and support test automation for both new and existing production lines.
- Provide support for in-house testing of prototypes and pre-production units, as well as high-volume production at our contract manufacturing partners.
- Analyze production statistics to improve test time and yields as production scales.
- Support failure analysis, root cause identification and corrective action implementation of components, sub-system, and field failures.
- Facilitate the smooth transfer of new products to high-volume production across multiple sites.
- Develop and document fault isolation troubleshooting tools and guides.
The Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Optical Engineering or Physics.
- A strong eagerness to learn, grow, and continuously develop skills, paired with a keen enthusiasm for hands-on work.
- Knowledge of analog and digital electrical circuits.
- Well-developed software skills with experience in source control tools like Git.
- Solid understanding of the key components of photonic line cards, including Wavelength Selective Switches (WSS), Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA), semiconductor lasers, and other optical technologies.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis within a production environment, including tools such as CPk analysis and Pareto charts, to drive process improvements and quality assurance.
- Understanding of Python and C#
Assets:
- Experience using optical and radio frequency (RF) test equipment (spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, attenuators)
- Team player who can effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams around the world.
- Must be reliable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and willingness to learn.
- Assertiveness to drive our contract manufacturer engineers/technicians.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent English is required.
- Fluency in oral and written French is desirable.
Pay Range
New Grad: The Annual Pay Range for this position is $60,800 - $97,200
Junior: The annual pay range for this position is $69,500 – $109,500
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
