As a Platform & Data Engineer at ING, you will play a key role in designing and building robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure. You will empower global reporting, analytics, and data science teams by creating and maintaining a reliable and flexible platform that supports their daily activities in analytics and machine learning.

Roles and responsibilities

Your responsibilities will span the design, implementation, and optimization of data models, pipelines, platform architecture, and deployment processes in a cloud-native environment. With your proven experience in building analytical platforms and complex data pipelines, you will be a technical cornerstone of ING’s data-driven transformation.

  • Design and build scalable data platforms on-premises based on SQL architecture.

  • Develop and maintain cloud-native platforms using Microsoft Azure and integrate with platforms like GCP, Synapse, and Databricks.

  • Build and optimize data pipelines using PySpark, SQL, Python, and REST APIs.

  • Integrate diverse data sources via Kafka, APIs, S3, and Data Lakes.

  • Automate deployment and infrastructure using Azure DevOps, Docker, and Terraform.

  • Create trusted datasets and design enterprise-grade data models.

  • Collaborate closely with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or a related technical role.

  • Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as Azure (including Azure Fabric), Databricks, and optionally GCP.

  • Proficient in Python and SQL, with experience in REST API integration.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.

  • Familiarity with orchestration and visualization tools such as Airflow, Superset, Power BI, Synapse, Hive, or similar.

  • Demonstrated success in building scalable analytical platforms and data pipelines in enterprise environments.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
