Senior Data Analyst

ScottishPower HQ, Glasgow

Salary starting from £48,400 + excellent benefits

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Data Analyst to help accelerate our journey towards more modern and data-driven ways of working.  You will partner closely with a hands-on leader to evolve our reporting and analysis capability, focusing on transitioning from spreadsheet-based ways of working to scalable, automated Power BI and Power Query solutions. 

The role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to strategic change while coaching others, building capability across the wider team, and ensuring insights are accessible and meaningful for a range of stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing

  • Understand Existing Processes:  Work with current Excel-based models and reports to understand how data flows through the team, then design improvements that streamline and future-proof reporting. 
  • Change Management: Lead change management efforts to transition the team away from spreadsheet reliance ensuring smooth adaptation to new BI reporting and tools.  Be accountable for demonstrating the increased efficiency and creation of capacity that streamlined processes and smarter ways of working will to deliver. 
  • Develop Modern BI Solutions:  Build and enhance Power BI reports, dataflows and data models that provide actionable insights and support informed decision making.
  • Data Integration Workarounds:  In a complex environment with some system constraints, apply creative thinking to manage manual data extracts, versioning and governance via a centralised repository.
  • Insightful Storytelling: Translate complex datasets into simple, compelling narratives that resonate with a variety of audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support Adoption & Upskilling:  Coach colleagues across the team in new tools and techniques, helping to embed more modern, sustainable data practices.
  • Collaborative Delivery: Work with colleagues across P&O and the wider business to understand their needs and co-create solutions that deliver value.
  • Maintain best practices: Create clear documentation and support reporting governance to ensure transparency, continuity and quality across all outputs.
  • Data Protection & Governance: Ensure that all handling of personal and sensitive data aligns with internal data protection policies and legal obligations (e.g. GDPR) maintaining secure process and upholding good data governance practices. 

What you’ll bring

  • Strong Power BI and Power Query experience (data transformation, data modelling, Power Query, DAX)
  • Comfortable navigating and reworking complex Excel-based reporting.
  • Analytical mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving
  • Experience working with large or varied datasets, including manual system extracts from multiple sources.
  • Excellent communication and data storytelling skills.
  • Experience working with or coaching non-technical users.
  • High levels of initiative and adaptability, with large matrixed environments.,
  • Ability to balance detail and pragmatism keeping solutions fit for purpose.
  • Experience of change management or business transformation initiatives.
