Role and Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

The newly formed AI team at SDE is currently looking for LLM Scientist to design, develop, and evaluate state-of-the-art language models. This role will focus on advancing techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and exploring RAG replacement methods to enhance model performance by integrating new retrieval mechanisms or alternative approaches.

As a forward-thinking company, we are at the forefront of innovation and seek an individual with a passion for pushing the boundaries of AI and content creation and processing of live camera frames and images on PC and mobile environments. The prospective engineer will have an opportunity to work in production environments and solve industry-relevant problems.

As a LLM-Software Development Manager, you will:

• Model Development: Implement and research large-scale language models using RAG, fine-tuning, and few-shot learning; explore RAG replacement techniques to improve efficiency and integrate new data sources.

• Design Development: Design and implement artificial intelligence systems and applications that can simulate human intelligence processes through the creation and validation of algorithms, neural networks, and other machine learning techniques.

• System Integration: Collaborate with designers, data scientists and other engineers in Samsung to integrate AI into broader system architectures and for production environments.

• Research & Innovation: Oversee the AI related design, development, and implementation of design innovation projects and new software systems.

Bigger picture:

• Technical Responsibility: Responsible for the growth vision of the new AI team in SDE and focus on both, the team's internal development and its impact on the broader organization.

• Leadership skills: Drive the technical vision and software strategy for the organization and set a medium AI strategy in SDE; define how such strategy can support the overall deliveries of the SDE division.

• Relationship building: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development in software and hardware to align technical projects with business goals from the UK to teams in South Korea.

What we need for this role

To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:

• Masters or higher degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or related fields

• Professional software development experience with C++ and Python

• Experience developing with machine learning frameworks – Tensorflow/Pytorch

• Expertise in LLMs, including architectures and training methodologies.

• Hands-on experience with RAG techniques and Python frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch. Familiarity with RAG replacements or advancements is a plus.

• Strong background in NLP tasks (text generation, summarization).

• Programming proficiency one or more of programming language and APIs like C++/Java/Python

• Excellent communication, teamwork and a results-oriented attitude

• Proficiency in problem-solving and debugging

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in Generative AI, including hands-on implementation of state-of-the-art models.

• Model optimization and knowledge distillation.

• Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.

• Expertise in managing software development projects, from conception to completion.

What does success look like?

• Successfully collaborate with SDE designers (Trend/Product/UX/CMF) to implement LLM solutions that address real design workflow needs

• Develop and optimise LLM prompts and fine-tuning strategies that consistently produce high-quality design outputs

• Build robust evaluation frameworks to measure AI feature effectiveness and guide continuous improvement

• Create reusable components and patterns for LLM integration that can scale across the entire platform

• Implement effective safeguards and content filters to ensure appropriate and usable AI-generated content

• Reduce design time-to-delivery by at least 30% through thoughtfully integrated AI assistance

• Establish comprehensive documentation and engineering patterns that enable future AI feature development

• Balance innovation with reliability to build features that are both cutting-edge and production-ready
