Our mission as part of the North America licensing team is to put our data assets to work and apply quantitative techniques to discover previously unknown insights about our licensing partners, retailers and consumers. We work directly with the major decision-makers who shape the Disney Consumer Products experience. Through our insights, we help form and improve Disney offerings.
What You Will Do
As leader of the North America Licensing analytics team, you act as the primary lead for developing and facilitating analysis linked to owned retail data as well as 3rd party retail and licensee data, enhanced through industry insights. This organization leads analyses and projects across cross-functional teams with direct and indirect leadership of analytics and data partners. This includes support for financial forecasting and long-term planning, evaluation of content, marketing and seasonal event performance, sizing campaign ROI, measurement of market-share and assessment of growth opportunities, macro and micro-economic trend insights and ad-hoc analysis socialized with senior executives.
Through strategic partnership with various analytics and technology teams, the director will prioritize insights and drive alignment with a bias for action to influence commercial activations, while identifying roadmap and technology needs for the total North America licensing organization.
While every single day will be different, with rotating priorities, the main themes for this role include supporting a team that excels in:
Orchestrate growth: Support the Commercial organization to develop the right strategies to drive brand and product demand and focus on discovering and translating insights to identify opportunities, pitch partners, forecast sales, plan activations, and inform marketing decisions.
Drive Purpose: Rally, inspire and align the Licensing Intelligence organization through strategy, a dedication to actionable insights and an unwavering expectation of innovative thinking with an anticipative mindset
Data Experts: Leverage and empower team of data scientists to link the right data assets to the proper analytical techniques to provide solutions.
Data Coders, Visualizers & Storytellers: Use knowledge of visualization techniques to create compelling dashboards and intelligence tools to enable ease of interpretation of commercial performance metrics. This involves having the team code the backend processes to quickly access needed data and develop decks that synthesizes complex data into a compelling story.
Measure Market-Share and identify gaps and whitespace: use strategic expertise to transform data into actionable insights that will drive innovation and identify new revenue opportunities
Sophisticated Retail Channel Knowledge: ability to identify and anticipate consumer, product and brand opportunities at the retail channel and/or retail-level based on specific channel needs, strategies and economic dynamics.
You will also:
Promote a collective and collaborative approach on business & customer insight, foster data sharing and KPI alignment, and be an active leader of data stewardship and governance
Lead analytics and experience forums that aggregate multiple analytical sources into a synthesized perspective. Align with partner teams to understand gaps and create solution-oriented findings and recommendations
Analyze and assess ongoing business performance and communicate risks and improvement opportunities to North America Leadership
Facilitate data science modeling, that ranges from descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive approaches.
Build compelling decks and presentations that can be used in senior executive forums.
Placing the consumer at the center of every analysis and decision, uncovering critical insights into their behavior, enabling strategies that resonate deeply and accelerate growth for the business
Groom a backlog of ongoing requests for data discovery and insight. This can include researching new ways to solve commercial questions using data and analysis.
Lead a seasoned team providing day-to-day leadership support and motivation.
Build diverse teams, seeking out ways to hire and retain top talent.
Be willing to be flexible with changing business needs and adaptable with work requests.
Required Qualifications & Skills
10+ years of experience in analytical roles and experience leading an analytics team in multiple markets
Proven ability to manage a large volume of complex work effectively and efficiently, prioritizing continually to ensure business results are achieved
Demonstrated business acumen working with P&L and annual operating plans
Creative, passionate and innovative thinker – excited about the possibilities of the future with the ability to drive pragmatic risk-taking
Experience leading the lifecycle of analytic products; from requirements gathering to data acquisition to presentation of results, and automation (where applicable)
Ability to draw inferences, quantify uncertainty and limitations of analysis
Time-management skills, with ability to prioritize multiple requests and communicate status to partners
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas and develop concise recommendations
Proven track record of successfully navigating diverse business landscapes and delivering analytics solutions across multiple markets with international experience preferred
Demonstrated relationship skills, comfortable with influencing peers and executives
Comfort in working in ambiguity to determine the questions that should be answered and the approach and partners needed to get there
Technical proficiency in these data technology subject areas:
Data pipeline technologies and ETL tools and languages
Database technologies such as Snowflake, SQL Server
Data Visualization and Consumption Tools such as Tableau, Microstrategy, Power BI, Business Objects
Data warehouse and data lake architecture
Scripting languages such as Snowscript, Javascript, VBA, Python - Preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with large scale retail systems data
Experience working with industry-leading CPG data providers, ie. Circana, Euromonitor
Experience working with cloud platforms/technologies
Experience with machine learning
Experience with merchandise systems
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related fields, with a preference for advanced degree(s)
