Role Description
We are hiring an Engineering Manager (M4) to lead our Enrichment and Perception team, a core part of Wayve’s Datasets organization. This role will oversee a group of 5–8 engineers responsible for scaling high-throughput data and ML pipelines that power semantic segmentation, cuboid annotation, behavior labeling, and related enrichment workflows.
This team delivers the enriched data that fuels core autonomy development at Wayve. As EM, you will be responsible for both team leadership and systems design, working to scale infrastructure, improve data quality, and drive delivery maturity. You will also help shape the team's structure and practices as we scale the organization.
A key mandate for this role is to scale enrichment pipelines to handle over a million hours of multimodal data — enabling the training and evaluation of next-generation massive pre-trained models for autonomous driving. This will require architectural maturity, automation-first thinking, and strong partnership with ML, Science, Product, and platform teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and mentor a team of 5–8 engineers across ML, perception, and data domains.
- Define and scale data enrichment pipelines, including:
- Semantic segmentation and cuboid annotation
- Computer vision scenario understanding
- ML-in-the-loop systems (e.g., model-assisted triage)
- Set and drive quality and throughput goals for all enrichment outputs.
- Drive architecture decisions that ensure robustness, efficiency, and scalability.
- Partner with infra and platform teams to productionize enrichment systems.
- Define and monitor data quality metrics; lead efforts to improve and enforce quality at scale.
- Collaborate with teams across autonomy, research, simulation, and data QA to align on deliverables and priorities.
- Act as a senior technical and organizational leader during a phase of rapid team and system scaling.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Engineering Manager - Datasets Enrichment at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential Skills and Experience
- 2+ years of engineering management experience in data, ML, or perception domains.
- Proven experience designing and scaling ML or data processing systems in production.
- Strong systems thinking across latency, throughput, observability, and robustness.
- Technical fluency in Python and/or modern data stack (e.g. Spark, Ray, Flyte, Databricks).
- Track record of delivering high-quality engineering outcomes in complex domains.
- Strong interpersonal skills; experience working with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience with people development, coaching, and performance management.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Prior experience in autonomous vehicles, computer vision, or robotics.
- Familiarity with labeling workflows and ML-assisted annotation systems.
- Experience with data quality monitoring and operational analytics.
- Familiarity with the challenges of scaling teams and systems in a fast-growing startup.
This is a full-time role based in our office in London, England, UK.
