Day in the Life of a Lead Data Engineer
  • Design and implement data models optimized for reporting, supporting a denormalized structure and star schema for BI.

  • Develop and maintain SQL code and Azure Data Factory pipelines to integrate and transform data from disparate sources.

  • Ensure data solutions are scalable, performant, and aligned with business needs.

  • Deliver complex projects on time, proactively identifying and mitigating gaps and/or risks.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into effective solutions. Support Data & Analytics team members to ensure quality and end-user satisfaction.

  • Optimize query performance and data processing efficiency within Azure SQL stack.

  • Manage data integration and ETL/ELT processes.

  • Utilize Azure DevOps for managing data pipelines, deployments, and version control.

  • Troubleshoot data-related issues, proactively identifying and resolving problems.

  • Combine a deep understanding of Azure technologies with experience to define and implement data architecture strategies that align with business goals and technology roadmaps.

  • Ensure data security best practices are implemented, maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Lead creation of collateral, including reference implementations and best practices.

  • Foster a problem-solving culture that resolves issues timely and through collaboration.

  • Be an effective technical mentor to more junior level teammates.​

Education and Licensure Requirements
  • 10 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, and database development required.

  • 5 years of experience in cloud-based data solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP) required.

  • 3 years of experience leading end-to-end data-driven projects.

  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL, Azure Cloud, Azure Data Factory, and Azure DevOps.

  • Strong, demonstrated experience designing and implementing data integration and transformation solutions.

  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database performance.

  • Familiarity with best practices for managing and monitoring data pipelines.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving ability with an initiative-taking approach to troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Power BI or a comparable analytics/reporting platform required.

  • Ability to make knowledgeable tradeoffs when translating resource and time constraints into design requirements.

  • Ability to work as part of an agile, collaborative team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
