Job Description
About The Team
The AI & Platform Services (AIPS) team exists within the Seek Group and provides AI-centric core services that scale globally including search, recommendations, candidate matching, ontological services, behavioural tracking and personalisation.
AIPS works primarily with internal partners, delivering services to these partners, who in turn deliver products to customers (candidates, hirers)
Members of the AIPS team fall into one of three primary roles
- AI (artificial intelligence and machine learning)
- Strategy (business, product, go to market)
- Engineering (development, devops, operationalisation of models)
People representing each of these roles are combined into squads which are in turn responsible for related sets of business services.
About The Role
We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to join the Recommendations team within AIPS and provide leadership in solving some of SEEK's most interesting and challenging problems. Our teams are cross-functional, and you’ll collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers across a diverse and extensive problem domain. In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of complex engineering solutions to enable AI/ML-powered services that help identify quality candidates for jobs.
The key responsibilities of this position on a day-to-day basis include:
- Designing, building, and maintaining scalable, high-performance components and services that align with the team's objectives.
- Owning and evolving the system architecture in accordance with best practices and SEEK principles.
- Being responsible for your service in production, its consistent uptime, troubleshooting, non-functional SLAs.
- Coordinating the design and implementation process to uphold SEEK’s high standards while ensuring the team remains aligned with agreed roadmaps and timelines.
- Supporting experiments to assess the performance of various algorithms and using the results to iteratively improve the platform.
- Leading a small team of engineers providing line management and supporting their career development through coaching, constructive feedback, and actionable suggestions for improvement.
- Collaborating with peers in Data Science, Product Management, and other stakeholders across the business to influence product evolution and drive critical decisions.
Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong technical skills and significant hands-on coding experience
- Solid background in software engineering with 10+ years of experience
- Skilled in crafting robust software architecture
- Proficient in Python, Scala or Java
- Proficient in Linux environments and Bash scripting
- Strong SQL skills
- Strong experience with AWS cloud platform – EC2, ECS, SQS, SNS, Batch, Lambda, Athena, CloudFormation, S3, SageMaker, DynamoDB, RDS, etc.
- Proficient in cloud-native development, including serverless frameworks and containerization tools, to build scalable and efficient solutions.
- Proven track record to build and maintain scalable, resilient systems
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
Professional Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent hand-on coding skills
- Good understanding of secure coding practices, and knowledge of mitigating common vulnerabilities
- Experience in people management and having direct reports
- Working with rapidly evolving designs and requirements
- Requirement gathering and stakeholder management skills
- Clear and effective communication
- Success in cross-functional teamwork
- Dedication to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends
Desired Skills:
While not required, having any of the following skills and experiences will be considered a valuable addition:
- Experience with AI/ML tools and platforms
- Experience with Golang
- Experience with Spark
