Job Summary: 

The Senior Manager, SEO & Content Marketing is an experienced strategist with demonstrated expertise across organic and technical SEO, content development, and implementation. This role will oversee the planning and execution of Organic SEO & prospect content marketing strategies across NRG Retail Energy Consumer Brands to increase organic visibility, support AI developments, develop strategic roadmaps to grow organic SEO and prospect content marketing, execute strategies, drive traffic, conversions, and return on investment. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical and creative mindset, an in-depth and proven understanding of organic SEO and content marketing, performance metrics, and the ability to turn insights into action. This leader will also collaborate cross-functionally to align SEO strategy with broader marketing and business objectives. This role will require leading execution of strategy in partnership with an SEO Manager as a direct report.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and own the long-term organic SEO strategy to drive sustainable traffic growth and improve SEO rankings.
  • Develop and own the long-term organic prospect content marketing strategy to drive sustainable traffic growth and engagement.
  • Implement SEO and content marketing through hands-on execution of strategy in partnership with SEO manager
  • Define SEO goals aligned with business objectives, including traffic, engagement, and conversion targets.
  • Develop LLM strategy to ensure brands are properly positioned for ongoing AI developments.
  • Stay ahead of algorithm updates and industry trends to adapt strategies proactively.
  • Guide keyword research and content gap analysis to inform editorial calendars.
  • Develop content and/or partner with content creators to ensure all content is optimized for search intent, readability, and engagement.
  • Oversee on-page SEO elements including metadata, internal linking, and schema markup.
  • Develop SEO-driven content plans that align with business goals and drive search visibility
  • Work with copywriters, editors, and content strategists to deliver high-quality, optimized content
  • Ensure content is user-centric, relevant, and tailored to various stages of the marketing funnel
  • Monitor and report on SEO KPIs such as organic traffic, keyword rankings, bounce rate, and conversions.
  • Use tools like LLMs, Google Analytics, BrightEdge,Search Console, SEMrush, and Ahrefs to derive actionable insights.
  • Conduct A/B testing and experimentation to improve SEO outcomes.
  • Work closely with creative services team, UX team paid media, and analytics teams to align SEO with broader digital strategies.
  • Educate internal stakeholders on SEO best practices and advocate for SEO in cross-team initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with external SEO agencies or consultants, ensuring deliverables and ROI.
  • Partner with UX, product, development, and paid media teams to align digital efforts
  • Manage agency partners and/or freelancers supporting SEO and content marketing initiatives
  • Present insights, results, and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Lead and mentor SEO teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • Set clear goals, provide feedback, and support professional development within the SEO team.
  • Self-motivated, ability to plan and collaboratively run projects independently.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid 3 days/week in office
  • Office location: Houston
  • Travel: Very minimal

 

Minimum Requirements:  

  • 9+ years of hands-on organic SEO experience and content marketing, up-to-date understanding of organic search trends, proven ability to achieve top search ranking results and proven ability develop effective content marketing strategy
  • 4+ years of experience managing and developing a team
  • Expertise in SEO tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Search Console, Moz, SEMrush, Ahrefs)
  • Experience with LLMs and AI SEO Development
  • Experience with content marketing strategy and execution
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and technical site architecture concepts
  • Experience with CMS platforms and basic knowledge of JavaScript
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a bias for action
  • Demonstrated ability to turn strategy into high-performing content that drive demand and growth
  • Has a passionate drive for process development, process improvement, attention to detail and project management.
  • Self-motivated, ability to plan and collaboratively run projects independently.
  • Personable with strong verbal and written communication skills; solid business acumen, able to clearly communicate objectives and outcomes with marketing leaders and cross-functional teams, streamline complex feedback and present material to a variety of audiences.
  • Understand Google Quality rater guidelines
  • Fluency with content marketing/working with other internal stakeholders to leverage things like PR for SEO benefits.
  • Google Analytics certification a plus
  • Google AdWords certification a plus
  • Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience working on a complex network of sites
  • Experience in working with onsite, technical, content, video and social media optimization. 
  • Experience in agency management
  • Experience in coordinating and project managing content development

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Expertise in hands-on organic SEO experience and content marketing, up-to-date understanding of organic search trends, proven ability to achieve top search ranking results and proven ability develop effective content marketing strategy
  • Experience with LLMs and AI SEO Development
  • Experience with content marketing strategy and execution
  • Expertise in usability principles, website and SEO best practices
  • Experience working in BrightEdge, Google Data Studio, Adobe T&T, Adobe Analytics, Google 360, Google Search Console, SEM Rush, SEM Ranking
  • Technical understanding of SEO:
    • On-Page SEO (Image Alts, Meta Tags, etc.)
    • Off-Page SEO (Link health review, Link Building, etc.)
    • Technical SEO (Page Speed Optimization, Rich Snippets, etc.)
    • Knowledge in Title Tagging and Meta Descriptions
    • SEO audits of client websites to ensure that all ranking factors are implemented correctly
  • Ability to work proactively and independently to meet multiple project deadlines; Ability to multi-task and prioritize as needed
  • Ability to learn new software and concepts quickly; ability to learn and adapt to evolving conditions and fluid requirements
  • Attention to detail and deadlines with a track record demonstrating initiative, drive and quality output
  • Experience in working with onsite, technical, content, video and social media optimization. 
  • Experience in agency management
  • Experience in coordinating and project managing content development
  • Excellent oral, organizational and written communication skills; troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to develop SEO and content strategies and ensure they are executed
  • Strong and demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution
  • Solid understanding of search engine ranking factors, algorithms, and core SEO principals
  • Strong web analytics skills with the ability to analyze and act on data, and a knack for testing and optimization.
  • Have a thorough understanding of SEO, how it interacts with UX, and how they both can affect site performance.
  • SEO knowledge around technical topics
  • Advanced understanding how websites work
  • Independent decision-making ability and a desire to implement projects
  • Experience with CMS
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility to accommodate different situations and temperaments
  • Proficient in MS Office applications. Strong on Excel
