The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a technical leader in our growing data team. You’ll work closely with product, analytics, and commercial teams to shape our data architecture and drive the evolution of our platform. Our stack is hosted in AWS and supports both batch and real-time data pipelines. You’ll build scalable systems using Spark (Scala/Java), Flink, and Lambda, and help define what excellent data engineering looks like across the company.

Experience with Databricks is a huge plus and will be considered a strong asset for this role.

You’ll also play a central role in mentoring, influencing technical direction, and supporting a modern data-driven culture at Viaplay.

What You Will Be Doing

• Design and build robust, scalable batch and streaming data pipelines

• Help shape our long-term data platform strategy and tooling

• Ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of our data products

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business and analytics needs

• Champion engineering best practices: clean code, testing, observability, peer reviews

• Mentor and guide other engineers through technical leadership and knowledge sharing

What We Are Looking For

We expect you to have 5+ years of experience in data engineering and at least 2 years in a senior role with technical leadership responsibility. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy solving complex challenges.

Key Skills

• Strong experience building data pipelines using Spark

• Excellent programming skills in Scala or Java (Python is a plus)

• Deep understanding of AWS Cloud services and infrastructure

• Hands-on experience with streaming frameworks (e.g. Flink, Lambda)

• Familiarity with data modeling, versioning, and orchestration tools

• Track record of mentoring and influencing architecture

Nice to have

• Infrastructure as code and CI/CD experience

• Focus on developer experience and platform scalability

• Contributions to open-source or internal engineering communities

• Experience with Databricks is a major advantage
