What is the opportunity?

In this role, you will become the subject matter expert for Cards and Payments Data, playing a key role in leading the BI Tool Tableau development within the Decision Management team. The role will drive superior business results, by providing key strategic insights and recommendations on new and existing business opportunities, through in-depth knowledge of the RBC data warehouse environment and data lake. This role will also champion the use of deep analytic rigour as the basis for the decision management methodology, as well as leveraging all available sources of data to create value within the business.

What will you do?

BI Tool & Analytic support

  • Transform the way cards and payments use data by developing advanced reporting and analytics to serve external and internal clients.

  • Develop new methodologies and business analytical tools to address complex business issues. Identify, measure, and monitor the impact and success of new and existing initiatives, including but not limited to pricing, acquisition, and portfolio management.

  • Coach/Mentor junior team members in term of building proper and impactful Tableau reports

Data Analysis

  • Become the data subject matter expert (SME) for Cards, Payments and Loyalty, Retail, Small business and Commercial credit card holders.

  • Support the roll-out of key business projects and ensure data and analytics capabilities are developed on time and on budget.

  • Help in data preparation for complex analytical projects

  • Responsible for the rapid identification, prioritization and deployment of reporting and analytics to define new potential business opportunities and to make well informed decisions (short and long term) through the use of internal, industry and competitor data.

  • Provide and/or support reporting requests, on cards, payments, and loyalty clients and for tracking the Moneris Transformational Program to appropriate groups (both internal and external), as required.

Value Added Consultation

  • Be a thought leader within the Reporting COE, applying a strategic lens to the development of reporting insights, advancing technical capabilities and influencing an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Lead or co-ordinate projects with other partner groups to meet business requirements on behalf of Cards & Payments that are completed using other Centre’s of Excellence.

  • Support senior management with the Reporting & Analytics workstream of the Moneris Transformation Program (MTP) as part of the Commerce & Payment mega-journey

  • Support senior management by analyzing new business opportunities and providing recommendations and support in developing business cases.

  • Frequently interact with partners to understand their business processes and objectives in order to define/recommend data & reporting solutions to meet those objectives. Build and manage effective relationships with key stakeholders, functional groups and other relevant members of the enterprise and our T&O partners.

  • Participate in decision making related to ongoing prioritization and reprioritization of work to accommodate evolving business priorities and changing needs.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 4+ years of experience with Tableau

  • 5+ years of experience with relational databases (Db2, MySQL, Teradata) as well as 2+ years of experience with big data environment / processing tools such as Hadoop (Hive, HDFS, Pig) and Apache Spark

  • Strong coding experience in programming languages like SQL, Python

  • Strong proficiency with statistical software – SAS

  • Effective storytelling skills – written and verbal. Produce simple, concise presentations and visualizations to clearly communicate to senior leadership. Data translation: Insights, Business Implications and Business Recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively through impact and influence in a cross-functional environment, as well as independently with initiative taking ownership.

  • Problem solver and logical thinker who can trace back and identify root cause of issues and articulate impacts of changes

  • A ‘Growth Mindset’ – embraces new data mining tools and different analytical techniques to generate impactful insights. Proactive and inquisitive mindset, continuously seeking opportunities to improve existing reporting, processes and streamline activities

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects.

Nice to have:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent related experience

  • Certification in Tableau and/or relational databases

  • Knowledge of credit cards, payments, and/or banking

  • Knowledge of RBC databases and RBC data warehouse environment.

  • Experience with database systems and data management.
