Position Summary:

The Strategic Technology ML Ops Specialist will develop, support, and maintain tools and processes for the full lifecycle of Strategic Technology’s optimization and prediction ML models .

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support and improve our machine learning (ML) workflows, and their orchestration, during development, and deploy, manage and optimize production ML models.
  • Contribute proactively to the full ML lifecycle and work closely with our data scientists on the various components including automated data collection, data validation, feature extraction, model training and testing, model deployment and inference processes using on-premise systems and AWS and other cloud providers.
  • Set up monitoring tools to track various metrics and establish alerts and notifications to quickly detect anomalies or deviations from expected behavior.
  • Develop and maintain model performance benchmarking and iterative improvement tools to ensure models continue to produce accurate results.
  • Analyze monitoring data, log, files, and system metrics. Document, troubleshoot, implement changes, and optimize across our ML pipelines.
  • Work effectively with our ML project stakeholders by developing and implementing effective solutions, defining expected deliverables, anticipating issues, and managing expectations well under time pressure. Other projects as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.  The Company is not able to take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time for this position or commit to doing so in the future for individuals with current authorization to work via, for example, CPT or OPT, and would need sponsorship in the future.
  • Strong background in data mining and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in Python, or proven ability in other programming languages such as R, Java, or C# as applied to Machine Learning production work streams.  Willingness and proven ability to learn new technologies quickly as needed to solve problems.
  • Experience working with databases of many kinds for ML use in the cloud and on-premise, from RDBMS to NoSQL and time series databases.  Experience with Postgres preferred.  Experience working with Iceberg or Delta-Lake cloud data preferred.
  • Experience with MLFlow or related tools for model experiment tracking, evaluation, registry, and deployment.
  • Experience building ETL workflows using tools similar to Prefect and N8N.
  • Experience with version control systems and building CI/CD pipelines with GitHub
  • Experience with containerization, Docker.
  • Experience with data streaming frameworks a plus.
  • Familiar with concepts like firewalls, encryption, VPNs, and secure data transfer
  • Familiar with logging tools including Prometheus
  • Experience with machine learning data preparation concepts (cross validation, folding, boosting, feature engineering) with clear understanding of time series related concerns.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, ECS, etc., for ML Ops use cases.
  • Ability to quickly learn necessary skills and information to be effective in position where necessary.
  • Curious, inquisitive, creative, exploration-driven, and self-motivated with a passion for applied Machine Learning and optimization.
  • Experience in power markets or in other commodity trading and/or operations domains is valuable, but not required.
