The Earth System Research Center is recruiting a computer scientist to support research in the scientific understanding of shallow snowpacks and frozen ground with consideration of snow and vegetation interactions using remote sensing via unpiloted aerial vehicle (UAV) and satellite platforms. The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers, snow scientists, and forest ecologists within the ESRC/EOS at the University of New Hampshire. The appropriate candidate will have cutting edge knowledge of machine learning and computer vision methods. Responsibility will include developing and document applications, supporting high level thinking and organization of overall strategies, and conducting literature review. Not essential staff.
Duties/Responsibilities
Develop Applications (40%):
Develop and document applications targeted to identify snow states and fluxes using camera, UAV, and remotely sensed datasets.
Create github libraries of methods and codes.
Expert Support (40%):
Support the research team members developing and document machine learning and computer vision applications through meetings and written guidance including recommendation of methods, production and optimization of computer codes.
Write methods sections appropriate for technical reports and peer reviewed manuscripts.
Literature Review (20%):
Develop targeted machine learning and computer vision methods literature reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Doctorate in computer science and knowledge of code regions processes and snow hydrology gain which may be gained through experience.
