As a Sr./Lead/Principal Fundamentals Analyst (title commensurate with experience), you will be responsible for developing and managing detailed regional natural gas supply and demand models, delivering insights to support trading, commodities strategy, and executive decision-making. This is a high-impact role requiring strong analytical capabilities, market expertise, and the ability to collaborate across trading, commodity, and research functions.

 

The Sr./Lead/Principal Fundamentals Analyst responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building and Maintaining Regional Balances: Develop bottom-up supply and demand models by trading region, including production, LNG, pipeline flows, storage, power generation, residential/commercial/industrial demand, imports/exports and others.

  • Data-Driven Insights: Identify key market trends, bottlenecks, and imbalances using a variety of datasets (e.g., pipeline nominations and maintenances, rig activity, weather, power loads, pricing signals).

  • Scenario Planning: Produce market outlooks under multiple scenarios (e.g., weather-driven demand swings, production shocks, policy impacts).

  • Market Monitoring: Track real-time and forward indicators (flows, prices, weather, regulatory changes) to interpret market behavior and forecast directional shifts.

  • Strategic Input: Provide actionable insights to trading desks and senior leadership, contributing to strategy development and risk management decisions.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with trading, origination, operations, and commodities analytics teams to ensure alignment of assumptions and methodologies.

  • Thought Leadership: Represent the organization externally where relevant (industry forums, client discussions), and internally as a subject matter expert.

 

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in energy markets, preferably with a focus on regional natural gas fundamentals.

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, finance, data science, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Strong modeling skills in Excel are a must. Familiarity with data tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, or other programming and visualization platforms is a plus. 

  • Deep understanding of the physical natural gas market, regional pipeline infrastructure, and pricing dynamics.

  • Excellent communication skills – able to synthesize and present complex information clearly and persuasively.

  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

  • Travel up to 10% of the time.

 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with EIA, PointLogic, Genscape, pipeline EBBs, or similar data sources.

  • Familiarity with power markets, renewables integration, and their interplay with gas demand.

  • Prior experience supporting a trading desk.
