Job Description

As a Staff Engineer within the Data Product teams, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and scaling Rituals’ data product strategy and delivery practices. Your core mission is to reduce cognitive load for developers, eliminate human error through automation, and improve engineering effi ciency by building blueprints, frameworks, and accelerators that enable high-quality, reusable, and governed data products across domains.

This role is at the heart of Rituals’ evolution toward a modular, platform-oriented data ecosystem — ensuring that every data product is built with clarity, consistency, and long-term value in mind.

You will work alongside two other Staff Engineers in Data Products, and closely with peers in Analytics Engineering and Platform Engineering to align standards, promote reuse, and accelerate delivery at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain architectural blueprints for reusable, governed, and contract-based data products.
  • Develop accelerators and frameworks (e.g. code scaffolds, testing templates, CI/CD components) that abstract complexity and drive consistency across product teams.
  • Partner with engineering leads to embed platform thinking into data product delivery, reducing duplication and cognitive overload for developers.
  • Drive quality through standardization of interfaces, schema patterns, lineage, and contract-first development.
  • Collaborate with product owners and domain leads to ensure product designs balance flexibility with standardization and scale.
  • Promote automation across the delivery lifecycle — including testing, monitoring, documentation, and deployment.
  • Mentor engineers within data product teams, fostering a culture of craftsmanship, autonomy, and accountability.
  • Work closely with Staff Engineers in analytics and platform to ensure end-to-end cohesion of the data ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • 6–8+ years in data, platform, or software engineering roles, with at least 2–3 years in a senior technical or architectural capacity.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering data products or services with strong focus on reuse, quality, and long-term ownership.
  • Deep knowledge of modern data stacks (e.g. dbt, Airflow, BigQuery, Spark) and familiarity with APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience creating developer enablement tooling, frameworks, or reusable libraries in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, contracts, governance, and product-oriented delivery in a data context.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional and cross-domain environments.
  • Comfort operating in a scale-up environment with evolving platforms and business needs.

Key Stakeholders

  • Data Product Engineers and Domain Teams
  • Product Owners and Delivery Leads
  • Fellow Staff Engineers in Analytics & Platform
  • Data Governance and Architecture

Strategic Value

As Staff Engineer for Data Products, you are a force multiplier — enabling Rituals to scale data product delivery without sacrificing quality or increasing complexity. You drive technical cohesion, reduce developer friction, and ensure that our data products are built for adaptability, sustainability, and value realization.
