Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Finance Data Engineer to join our Finance team in supporting the development and scaling of data management systems for accounting and financial operations. You will leverage our core software stack to build robust data pipelines, ensure data accuracy for financial reporting, and contribute to infrastructure that supports our growing financial data needs. This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional eager to apply data engineering skills in a finance context within a fast-paced, asset-intensive business.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for financial data from sources including NetSuite, internal tools, external vendors, and AI-driven integrations like Grok.
  • Integrate and manage financial datasets in GCP/BigQuery or Databricks, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GAAP, SOX).
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to develop scalable data models for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and ad hoc projections using Power BI or Looker.
  • Build and maintain internal tools to streamline financial workflows and improve operational efficiency.
  • Analyze current and past financial data, spend data, and performance metrics, tying numbers to business operations for audits, risk assessments, and decision-making.
  • Monitor and optimize data workflows to handle increasing data volumes, identifying bottlenecks and implementing improvements for efficiency.
  • Support procure-to-pay functions and other accounting processes by ensuring accurate data flows and integrations.
  • Contribute to documentation of data processes and participate in cross-functional projects to enhance data infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, or Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience; internships or academic projects in data engineering, finance, or accounting are highly valued.
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and data manipulation and Python for scripting, automation, and data processing.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools like Power BI or Looker.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP/BigQuery or Databricks) and fundamental data concepts (e.g., databases, ETL processes).
  • Understanding of core financial and accounting principles, such as ledgers, invoicing, financial statements, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to conceptualize the flow of transactions across financial statements and logically tie numbers to business operations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems for financial data handling.
  • Familiarity with AI integrations (e.g., Grok) for enhancing financial analytics and automation.
  • Exposure to asset-intensive industries (e.g., manufacturing, construction, transportation).
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (e.g., using keyboard shortcuts and working efficiently).
  • Strong organizational skills and insane attention to detail.
  • Ability to efficiently multitask and work within challenging deadlines.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git and agile methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills paired with the ability to problem-solve accounting and data-related matters.

Additional Requirements

  • Position may require extended work hours and weekend work to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with little oversight and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
