Brandeis University is delighted to announce a career opportunity as a Data Scientist II. This person will lead data science projects, collaborating with research management. Perform data management and analysis tasks that require expert data management and programming skills.

We are specifically seeking a data scientist with prior experience using Redcap to collect and manage data for multi-site clinical trials and other applied studies. Specific tasks include managing data exchange between systems, managing large, multi-site databases, designing and conducting quality checks, building reports, conducting exploratory and inferential bivariate and multivariate analysis, and contributing expert knowledge to larger study teams. This position also has the potential to manage and mentor graduate research associates and other analysts. Provide significant input to inform data driven strategies, collaborating with research leaders to help shape the overall direction of data driven initiatives.

Job Description

  • Lead major data science projects, defining scope, timelines, and resource allocation. Project work involves: managing and integrating large data sets which include enrollment, survey and claims-based data elements. This work also includes documentation, quality control and the development of analytic data sets. 20%
  • Oversee design and maintenance of maintain a Redcap database to support multi-site clinical trials. This includes the design of a data model, building and testing projects within the data model and end-user testing. Some projects may also require algorithms or other calculations be built directly into Redcap. 20%
  • Set up automated survey processes, working collaboratively with clinical research coordinators and data scientists at study sights. Coordination activities may include leading or participating in meetings, sharing documentation and problem-solving issues as they arise. 5%
  • Build internal and external facing dashboards to monitor enrollment, engagement in treatment, and follow-up data collection. 5%
  • Help design and conduct descriptive and multivariate analysis to test balance between arms, assess intermediate and final outcomes, and address other relevant research questions. 20% 
  • Develop reports for researchers summarizing results of statistical analyses 10% Responsible for documenting data sets, identifying problems with data and summarizing the impact these problems may have on data analyses. 5%
  • Participate in training clinical research coordinators and survey teams at study sites. 5%
  • Supervises and directs student assistants in their programming efforts. Provides technical, statistical and quantitative mentoring and support for interdisciplinary teams of researchers. 10%

Position Requirements:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative field such as data science or statistics plus at least 7 years of related experience or a bachelor’s degree plus nine years
  • Expert fluency in SAS
  • Experience working with large healthcare claims datasets including Medicaid.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard healthcare coding systems, such as ICD 9/10, CPT, HCPCS, and DRG codes
  • Ability to collaborate and lead teams to meet project deadlines
