Power BI Developer

Overview

Adastra is seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented Senior Power BI Developer to support the delivery of business intelligence solutions. In this role, you'll work deep in the stack — writing complex DAX, working directly with dimensional models, configuring workspace and tenant-level security, and developing both standard and paginated reports with performance and scalability in mind.

This is a hands-on technical role, ideal for someone who knows Power BI beyond the UI — who understands how it works under the hood, how to optimize it, and how to connect it securely and efficiently to data platforms in a governed environment.

Location: Calgary, Alberta (Hybrid 3 days/week onsite)

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field
• Hands on Power BI Report Developer with Power BI Reports and Paginated Reports (or SSRS) experience (5+ years)
• Ability to understand security and governance requirements and translate them into Power BI tenant/workspace security configuration
• Great knowledge of SQL
• Experience with complex DAX queries
• Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling)
• In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (extract, transform, load) framework
• Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude who can translate data into informative reports and visuals
• Proactive self-starter who learns business side in addition to technical requirements
• Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative: always brings ideas to the table rather than waiting to be told what to do
• Great communication skills: must be able to discuss the requirements effectively with the client
• Analysis Services (SSAS or AAS) experience is a big plus
• Experience with Power BI Dataflows is a plus
• Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate is a plus
• Experience with Power BI tenant administration is a plus
