  • Location: This opportunity can be remote within Canada (excluding Quebec), or onsite/hybrid in the Vancouver, BC Lower Mainland. Our head office is in Surrey, BC.
  • Annual Base Salary: $73,900 to $83,300 CAD

    Instructional Designer I

    Safe Software is hiring an Instructional Designer I to join our growing Customer Education team to focus on two high-impact priorities: building a scalable training customization system that meets the needs of diverse user roles, industries, and data types, and contributing to the development and improvement of on-demand and live training content that supports learners with clear, practical, and relevant experiences.

    About The Team 

    As part of the Customer Education team, you’ll join a group of cross-functional experts who collaborate closely to design, deliver, and refine training programs. The Customer Education team creates materials such as e-learning training courses, presentations, and videos, conducts virtual and in-person training, supports participants post-training, and certifies our users.     What You’ll Be Doing

    As a Instructional Designer I, you will:

    • Design modular training paths tailored to job roles and customer needs.
    • Create detailed instructional plans and structured course pathways.
    • Build and maintain a training customization system to support future scale.
    • Conduct job task analyses, user research, and training needs assessments.
    • Collaborate with SMEs and cross-functional teams to identify learning goals.
    • Develop eLearning modules, video tutorials, user guides, and more.
    • Support live virtual training sessions and assist in delivery.
    • Continuously improve training materials based on feedback and learner data.
    • Evaluate the use of new course authoring tools as part of customization.
    • Contribute to the overall development and scalability of the FME Academy.

    Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

      Safers come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse skills and knowledge. That being said, those who are most successful in this role have experience with the following:

      • 1–2 years of experience in instructional design, adult education, or customer training.
      • Strong communication and content writing skills.
      • Experience designing and customizing training for non-technical and technical users.
      • Understanding of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
      • Comfort using learning platforms (LMS) and multimedia creation tools.
      • Willingness to learn technical concepts in data integration or software education.

      Desired skills / Bonus points:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Adult Education, Education Technology, Instructional Design, or equivalent work experience
      • Experience with FME or similar data integration platforms.
      • Familiarity with data types (GIS, CAD, APIs, databases) and use cases.
      • Exposure to programming languages like Python and data formats like XML and JSON.
      • Experience with learning management systems like Skilljar.
      • Experience with e-learning authoring tools like Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate.
      • Experience with screen capture tools like TechSmith Snagit.
      • Experience with video editing tools like Davinci Resolve.
      • Experience with AI tools like ChatGPT.
      • Interest in UX/UI as it relates to training effectiveness.

      What Will Help You Succeed in This Role: 

      • Curiosity about how different users learn and a willingness to conduct research, including interviews and job task analysis.
      • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in simple, accessible ways.
      • Attention to detail when writing or reviewing training content, including grammar, structure, and clarity.
      • Openness to feedback and a collaborative mindset, especially when working on iterative content.
      • Interest in learning about FME and its use across different industries, even if you're new to data integration.
      • Comfort with ambiguity and change as we build new processes for customizing our training programs.
