Description:

SUMMARY

Under general supervision and according to established policies and processes, assesses the data development and collection needs of a designated department. Coordinates the collection of and/or abstracts clinical, operational and financial data elements from multiple sources. Ensures the accuracy and completeness of data. Analyzes information to identify trends and present for recommendations for improvements, as appropriate. Develops and maintains databases as required. May assist with the implementation of new and existing policies, procedures, practices and standards.

QUALIFICATION

Education Requirements

  • Minimum:

    • Bachelor’s in business administration, Health Information Management, or related field

    • Strong background in data management or statistical analysis

    • Equivalent experience may substitute education

  • Preferred:

    • Coursework in Statistics / Statistical Process Control

    • Master’s Degree

    • 340B ACE certification

Related Experience

  • Minimum:

    • 2+ years in data integration/analysis, especially with Epic EHR

  • Preferred:

    • Familiarity with 340B regulations

    • Experience in healthcare revenue integrity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills (data collection, reporting, sampling, discrepancy resolution)

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-team collaboration

  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, and statistical software

  • Ability to extract and analyze data from disparate systems

  • Familiarity with clinical, administrative, and financial healthcare data

  • Experience with public health data and external sources

  • Comfortable working independently and in teams

  • Strong presentation and reporting skills

  • Capable of interpreting technical/professional documents and regulations

  • Able to write policies, procedures, and reports

Computer Competency

  • Comfortable with:

    • Windows-based systems

    • Email, intranet, e-learning

    • Other essential software (likely Excel, Access, SQL, SAS/SPSS, etc.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

 Assesses the data development and collection needs of leadership and service lines/departments. Collaborates with leadership and staff to determine appropriate data and statistical calculations required to produce information necessary to facilitate improvements.

 Collects data and develops detailed and comprehensive statistical reports, graphs and presentations in order to analyze, evaluate and present findings regarding clinical and operational data. Uses appropriate sampling techniques and develops/implements efficient and effective methodology for data collection. Creates and identifies tools needed to assess the accuracy, reliability and validity of data. Provides detailed analyses of clinical data, which includes creating control-charts and using knowledge of statistical process control and statistical calculation, e.g.; standard deviation, correlation, scatter plots, Binomial distribution, continuous probability distributions, confidence intervals 2-sigmas and 3-sigmas, etc. Identifies trends in the data and develops recommendations for improvements, as appropriate. Develops presentations to share data with leadership.

 Develops and maintains databases (including table design, advanced query design, report writing, and forms building) which may include creating tablets, querying data, importing/exporting to/from spreadsheets and other databases, creating forms, creating drop down/combination boxes and control buttons, creating and editing reports, exporting reports to RTF files, creating macros, linking tablets, etc. in order to track data, integrate data/files, interface with other databases, export to spreadsheets, and create reports. Monitors usage of the database in order to ensure its integrity. Teaches others how to use databases and manipulate data to produce desired results.

 Identifies appropriate tools to display data based upon customer needs, data collection design and purpose of the data (e.g. XmR control charts, P control charts, R control charts, X-bar R control charts, Pareto charts, 2Y Axis charts, histograms, etc.).

 Functions as an expert with regard to internal/external data sources. Seeks out and identifies new sources of data as needed to support clinical and performance improvement activities. Develops methods of securing data from identified sources. Identifies issues and problems or concerns related to data collection and reporting and assists in the standardization of data collection and reporting processes and procedures, and implementation and evaluation of new policies and procedures as appropriate.

 Acts as a liaison between assigned departments and other internal and external customers/stakeholders with regard to gathering and providing data, resolving data collection/analysis/measurement issues, analyzing data and identifying trends, recommending improvements, explaining policies and procedures and assisting others in understanding the data.

 Remains up to date with developments and trends in data management, statistical analysis and measurement, methodology and technology by attending and participating in seminars, in-services, and meetings; maintaining professional affiliations in related organizations and reading current literature and journals related to field of work.

 Participates in special projects and development of analyses as directed.  Performs other related duties as assigned
