The Research Science team at Amazon Robotics is seeking interns with a passion for robotic research to work on cutting edge algorithms for robotics. Our team works on challenging and high-impact projects, including allocating resources to complete a million orders a day, coordinating the motion of thousands of robots, autonomous navigation in warehouses, and learning how to grasp all the products Amazon sells. We are seeking internship candidates with backgrounds in computer vision, machine learning, resource allocation, discrete optimization, search, planning/scheduling, and reinforcement learning. As an intern you will develop a new algorithm to solve one of the challenging computer vision and manipulation problems in Amazon's robotic warehouses. Your project will fit your academic research experience and interests. You will code and test out your solutions in increasingly realistic scenarios and iterate on the idea with your mentor to find the best solution to the problem.
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, Operations Research or similar with a graduation date after December 2025
- Must be available and eligible for a full-time (40h/week) internship between May/June and August/September 2025
- At least two years of relevant academic research in state-of-the-art approaches for at least one of computer vision, resource allocation, optimization, planning, machine learning, or reinforcement learning
- Fluency in at least one statistical software package such as R, Stata, or Matlab
- Experience with programming languages such as Java, C++, Python
- Prior use of Java or C++ for research algorithm development
- Demonstrated ability to work on collaborative, cross-functional teams
- Understanding of big data computing frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, etc) and Amazon Web Services
- Scientific mindset and the ability to invent, excellent creative problem solving skills
- Ability to develop system prototypes in simulation
- Drive to see a project through from research concept to working simulation prototype
- A working knowledge of analysis of algorithms and computational complexity

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $65.38/hr in our lowest geographic market up to $102.31/hr in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
