We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Data Governance to lead and mature our organization's data governance strategy and initiatives. This critical role will be responsible for establishing and enforcing policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, security, and accessibility of our data assets across the enterprise. The Director of Data Governance will champion a data-driven culture, working collaboratively with various departments to maximize the value of our data while minimizing risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership:

  • Define, develop, and implement a comprehensive enterprise-wide data governance strategy, roadmap, and framework.
  • Lead the establishment and evolution of data governance policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX).
  • Champion data governance principles and best practices across the organization, fostering a culture of data ownership and accountability.
  • Start as an individual contributor, laying the groundwork to form and eventually lead a high-performing data governance team. Provide hands-on mentorship and create opportunities for continuous professional development.


Framework & Implementation:

  • Establish and manage a data governance council or steering committee, facilitating cross-functional collaboration and decision-making on data-related matters.
  • Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability roles and responsibilities across the organization.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data dictionaries, business glossaries, data lineage, and metadata management processes.
  • Implement and manage data quality programs, including data profiling, error detection, and remediation processes.
  • Develop and monitor key data governance metrics and KPIs to track progress and demonstrate value.


Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with internal data policies and external regulatory requirements related to data privacy, security, and integrity.
  • Identify and assess data-related risks, develop mitigation strategies and controls.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and security teams to ensure data governance initiatives support overall risk management frameworks.


Collaboration & Communication:

  • Act as a primary liaison between business units, IT, and other stakeholders on data governance matters.
  • Communicate the value and importance of data governance to all levels of the organization.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on data governance policies and best practices.
  • Drive adoption of data governance tools and technologies.
     

Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data management, data quality, or data governance roles.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, including managing teams and strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing enterprise-level data governance frameworks and policies.
  • Strong understanding of data lifecycle management, metadata management, data quality, and data security principles.
  • In-depth knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry best practices.

Preferred:

  • Certifications in Data Governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).
  • Experience with data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Talend).
  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., finance, healthcare, government).
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data governance implications.

For this US-based position, the base pay range is $151,851.00 - $220,767.33 per year . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

This job is eligible to participate in our annual bonus plan at a target of 20.00%
