This role is focused on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, Azure Data Platform, and legacy systems. You will play a critical role in building and maintaining data pipelines, lakehouses, and reporting capabilities to support strategic business intelligence and AI initiatives. 

As a subject matter expert, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, secure, and high-quality data infrastructure and reporting tools that drive insights and innovation across the organisation.

 

Requirements

What You'll Do:

    • Administer and optimise Microsoft Fabric environments including Dataflows, Pipelines, Lakehouses, and Real-Time Analytics, along with Azure components like Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and Data Factory.
    • Design and maintain scalable data architectures using the medallion model (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
    • Develop, test, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and dataflows from various internal and external sources, supporting both modern and legacy platforms (SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS).
    • Configure, monitor, and tune performance across cloud data platforms.
    • Implement and uphold standards for data governance, quality, security, and compliance, including validation, anomaly detection, and access control.
    • Build and enhance data models, Power BI dashboards, and apps to support business reporting needs.
    • Collaborate with analysts, business units, and technical teams to align data solutions with business goals.
    • Document data assets, pipelines, transformations, and development standards.
    • Mentor junior team members and citizen developers to promote best practices.
    • Identify and implement continuous improvements to streamline operations and enhance platform performance.

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven experience in data engineering or analytics roles, preferably within the public sector or large enterprise environments 
  • Proven experience managing and administering Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platforms. 
  • Strong proficiency in:  Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Synapse Analytics, SQL, Python, PySpark Power BI, DAX, Data Modelling 
  • Experience with: ETL/ELT pipeline development, Medallion architecture design and maintenance, Data governance and security frameworks, Orchestration tools 
  • Working knowledge of legacy systems: SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality 
  • Proficiency in a relevant programming language (Python, Javascript, etc.) 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy. 
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment to prioritise accordingly. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to IT and non-IT stakeholders. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, intellectual rigour and curiosity, and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 

Desirable: 

  • Microsoft certifications in Azure or Fabric technologies 
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps in cloud environments 
  • Familiarity with machine learning pipelines and large-scale distributed systems
